Dixon Montessori Charter School is a WASC accredited public school enrolling students in grades TK-8th grade. We are a site based school program serving over 400 students under the authorization of Dixon Unified School District.

Title: Special Education Paraprofessional
Reports to: Executive Director, Education Specialist, Classroom Teacher
Primary Function: Under general supervision of the Executive Director and Teacher(s) supports and assists in the implementation and monitoring of instruction, classroom order and behavior intervention.
Relationship to Student Achievement: Assists academically and behaviorally students, individually or in small groups, with assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.

Duties and Responsibilities: (This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.)
* Assists students, individually, 1;1, or in small groups, with assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, provide writing assistance, reinforce language lessons, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
* Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
* Administers classroom assignments, jobs, tests, homework assignments, make-up work for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
* Assists other personnel as may be required (e.g. enrolling students, working with all classroom teachers, filing paperwork, organizing rooms, duplicating, correcting papers, working on IEP goals, etc.) for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
* Attends meetings and in service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
* Uses data to provide teacher information on how the individual students are progressing; may assist with parent conferences, or IEP conferences as requested.
* Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans in the classroom for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic success.
* Maintains classroom work area, manual and files and records, provides written reference, provides a safe learning environment.
* Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
* Provides verbal feedback and written documentation for the purpose of informing teacher/s and parents of students' progress.
* Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, bullying, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
* Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
* Understand the CA standards for grade/s assigned and create lesson plans, to be approved by the teacher assigned, for delivery to either a large group or individual students.
* Create Montessori jobs, approved by the teacher assigned, to meet CA standards for grade/s assigned.
* Enforce discipline policy of the assigned classroom and school PBIS program.
* Attend IEP, 504, teacher conferences as requested
* Conference with classroom teachers and under the direct guidance of the teacher assist in the preparation of student report cards.
Required Experience and Education:
* Ability to understand and carry out complex multi-step oral and written instructions.
* Knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
* Ability to perform basic math functions as required by the grade level assigned.
* Ability to work with a wide diversity of individuals.
* Ability to assist with supervising student activities in a school setting.
* Problem solving is required to identify issues and recommend action plans to teacher.
* Understanding of CA state standards for grade level/s assigned.
* Able to work in an environment with confidential information and handle it with discretion.
