North Ridgeville City Schools company history timeline

1810

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The North Ridgeville of today bears little resemblance to the community settled more than 200 years ago by brave men from Waterbury, Conn., who trekked into the wilderness area of Ridgeville Township in the spring of 1810.

The first pioneer wife, Electa Terrell, arrived later in 1810.

1829

In 1829, long before the name was changed, the township's post office was renamed the North Ridgeville post office to differentiate it from the town of Ridgeville near Dayton.

1882

By March of 1882, the citizens of the township decided to vote at the April election upon the question whether to build a new, larger town hall.

1897

Reflecting the area's rural nature, for many years the Lorain County Farmers' Institute held their annual two-day meetings at Ridgeville's Town Hall, beginning in 1897.

1910

When the Ridgeville Centennial was observed in May of 1910, the Town Hall was the scene of many speeches, historical orations, and a general gathering of long-time residents and friends marking the township's first century.

1924

Following the 1924 abandonment, the Jaycox Road school (District No.

1958

It was three years before Ridgeville was organized as Ridgeville Township, a name that remained until 1958 when it was renamed North Ridgeville Village.

1960

By August of 1960, the village's population of more than 5,000 people meant that the township could become a city and North Ridgeville was born.

During the 1960's the first floor of the Town Hall (then called 'City Hall') was remodeled twice as expanding city offices and increased heating costs required such change.

1975

In 1975, the government offices were moved from the old building to the current City Hall on Avon-Belden Road.

1982

The Centennial ceremony and re-dedication of North Ridgeville's Old Town Hall were celebrated in 1982.

1985

In about 1985, the Sullivan family first approached the Historical Society about the possibility of purchasing the school; but the Society wasn't in a financial position to do so.

1990

Through most of the 1990's, the Historical Society shared the meeting area with the North Ridgeville Arts Council, who provided a monthly Art Gallery highlighting the artistic talents and collections of the city's residents and students.

1993

In the summer of 1993, Lorain County Historical Society member and former Director Tom Stetak of LaGrange (known as Mr.

2001

The weekend of July 7-8, 2001, saw the first public open houses at the building; displaying for the first time all of the school's renovations.

In the spring of 2001 our local Ohio Representative, [the late] Jeff Manning, obtained a very substantial grant ($150,000) from the State Budget for the North Ridgeville Historical Society and its projects especially the Jaycox/Snow Road school.
