Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
* Responsible for effective communication to promote quality patient care. Demonstrates willingness to communicate with nurses on patient care issues, ventilator changes and ABG results. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with physicians on patient orders, critical ABG results and ventilators. Communicates with Supervisor all critical care and floor care concerns. Gives detailed shift report.
* Responsible for complete documentation in all aspects of the medical record. Initials all new start orders and all ABG orders. Verifies orders before treating patients. Completely fills out treatment sheets, vent flow sheets, oxygen sheets and other department paperwork. Properly completes ABG log, QC and maintenance records.
* Responsible for management of critical care patients. Demonstrates ability to manage ventilators by parameters. Assimilates chart information such as CXR, lab and H&P and progress notes to properly manage patient. Assists nurses with other duties as requested to provide quality patient care. Documents thoroughly any changes in patient care plan, i.e. clear explanation of events and deviation from documented plan of care.
* Responsible for floor therapy modalities. Performs assigned therapy and new starts in a timely manner. Provides patient education and information as needed. Understands oxygen and aerosol protocol. Follow up of critical care patients who move to floor areas. Informs floor of unexpected delays in treatment.

Assist with education of nurses and nursing staff on cardiopulmonary issues and respiratory care. This also includes education on equipment and inhalation treatments.
Reviews assigned referrals to ensure that care needs can be maintained in the facility.
Assist with emergency care of patients when in the facility such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Duke Life Flight is a CAMTS accredited critical care and Emergency Air and Ground transport agency in Durham, NC, providing services to North Carolina and its surrounding states. We operate two state-of-the-art rotor wing aircraft and a fleet of critical care, and advanced life support ambulances. General Description of the Job Class

Job Summary

Initiates, conducts and modifies respiratory care techniques in an emergency setting. Performs and evaluates blood sampling analysis with a thorough understanding of the values, and the importance and treatment of abnormal results.
Works independently in all patient care areas and assists co-workers with patient care whenever possible. Is proficient in the electronic medical records and its interface with the Respiratory Care Department.
Follows departmental safety guidelines. Completes all regulatory requirements. Completes annual proficiency evaluation of respiratory care equipment and procedures.
Physical Requirements

About the Role:
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership:
Provide individual and group therapy to patients, using evidence-based practices tailored to address chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.
Develop, review, and update treatment plans to ensure they are individualized and aligned with patient needs and recovery goals.
Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the therapy team, guiding best practices in addiction treatment.
Team Supervision & Development:
Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical oversight to a team of therapists, interns, and support staff.
Conduct regular team meetings, case reviews, and individual supervision sessions to promote effective communication and professional development.
Assist in the recruitment, training, and onboarding of new clinical staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver high-quality care.
Program Development & Quality Assurance:
Collaborate with the Clinical Director and other team members to enhance and refine therapeutic programs, ensuring they are up-to-date with industry standards and best practices.
Monitor the effectiveness of therapy services, collecting feedback from patients and staff to identify areas for improvement.
Develop and implement clinical protocols, policies, and procedures to support a safe and therapeutic environment.
Coordination of Care:
Work closely with the interdisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, case managers, and support staff, to coordinate comprehensive care plans for patients.
Facilitate communication between therapists and other departments, ensuring consistency in treatment approaches.
Provide crisis intervention and support when necessary, addressing immediate patient needs and safety concerns.
Documentation & Compliance:
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes, in compliance with hospital policies and legal regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
Regularly audit clinical records to maintain high standards of care and identify any compliance issues.
Stay informed about regulatory changes, licensure requirements, and accreditation standards, ensuring the team adheres to all applicable guidelines.
Patient & Family Education:
Conduct educational sessions for patients and their families, providing information on chemical dependency, recovery strategies, and available resources.
Empower patients and their families to understand the recovery process and engage actively in treatment planning.
Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
Licensure: Current licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent is required. Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or similar certification is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of [1] year of clinical experience in addiction treatment, substance use disorder, or mental health services.
Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
Skills:
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
Proven leadership abilities, with experience in team management and staff development.

Administers and coordinates a variety of treatment relating to respiratory problems for patients throughout the life span; properly charts treatment given. Consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. Effectively communicates to members of the interdisciplinary team with patient care updates on changes. Responds to a variety of emergency and critical care situations, extends therapy to those patients. Assesses patients and takes the proper course of action. This position will care for patients in the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Attends regularly tier 1 huddle and staff meetings along with utilizing and learning our Error Prevention Tools and behaviors for delivering safe care. Actively supports and encouraged to participate in VOICE and unit practice council.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Care Professional) in the state of Georgia.
Educational Requirements: Associates Degree
Minimum Experience:
Other: Therapist should have Respiratory Therapy training through an accredited school and successful completion of registry examination.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Responsible for effective communication to promote quality patient care. Communicates with nurses on patient care issues, ventilator changes and ABG (Arterial Blood Gas) results. Communicates effectively with physicians on patient orders, critical ABG results, changes, and with ventilators. Communicates with Supervisor all critical care and floor care concerns. Gives detailed shift report, preferably at bedside as able.
Responsible for complete documentation in all aspects of the medical record. Verifies all new start orders and all ABG orders. Verifies orders before treating patients. Document treatments and any medications delivered, vent flow sheets, in EMR and any other patient or department paperwork. Properly completes ABG log, QC, and maintenance records.
Responsible for management of critical care patients. Demonstrates ability to manage ventilators by parameters. Assimilates chart information such as CXR, lab and H&P and progress notes to properly manage patient. Assists nurses with other duties as requested to provide quality patient care. Minimizes time away from the units. Documents thoroughly any changes in patient care plan, i.e., clear explanation of events and deviation from documented plan of care.
Responsible for floor therapy modalities. Performs assigned therapy and new starts in a timely manner. Provides patient education and information as needed. Follows up on critical care patients who move to floor areas. Understands oxygen and aerosol protocol. Informs floor of unexpected delays in treatment.
Contributes to the productive and effective operation of the department. Organizes patient care and sets appropriate priorities to help complete assigned tasks. Performs patient consultations/assessments at Physician or nursing request. Performs other duties as assigned.
