Northern Essex Community College company history timeline
Santiago was working for then Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis when the Lawrence riots occurred in 1984.
Mike Hearn, the college’s director of libraries, can be credited with providing the leadership to get the history published, along with an update covering 1986 to the present written by Mary Wilson, dean emeritus of the college, with contributions from Wendy Shaffer, dean of development.
Since the Dimtiry Building opened in 1991, the college has grown to include NECC Riverwalk on Merrimack St, the Louise Haffner Fournier Education Center on Amesbury St, and the new iHealth Building, also on Franklin St
Spurk was a professor of history & government at Northern Essex for 24 years until his retirement in 1991.
The college is currently building the Ibrahim El Hefni Allied Health & Technology Center which is scheduled to open in fall of 2013.
