    Northern Light Mercy Hospital Department: Respiratory Therapy Mercy Fore River Work Type: Full Time Hours Per Week: 36.00 Work Schedule: 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM * Sign On Bonus for Eligible Candidates* The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. The incumbent must be a graduate of a 2-year associate degree or a 4-year Baccalaureate Degree National Board for Respiratory Care (NRBC) approved Respiratory Therapy Program. Bachelor's degree preferred. The RRT must have current BLS certification with ACLS, PALS, and NRP preferred. The RRT must hold current Maine State professional license and meet the current license eligibility requirements of the NBRC. The incumbent must possess good clinical, communication and interpersonal skills. The RRT must be able to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team as well as independently. The RRT must possess good technical aptitude to understand and operate highly complex medical equipment. The RRT performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. Responsibilities: * Mechanical ventilator initiation and management. * Insertion and/or care of artificial airways. * Patient assessment, medication administration and recommendation for therapy, interpretation of clinical data. * Airway clearance and bronchoscopy assist as appropriate. * Participation in the Rapid Response Team, Code Team, Trauma Team, and Sepsis Team as applicable by member. * Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds in critical care areas and participate in education of students/other staff. * Protect patients or staff members using safety equipment. * Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed. * Other Duties. Other Information: * Maine State professional license and meet the current license eligibility requirements of the NBRC. * BLS certification to be obtained prior to independently caring for patients and kept current. * Registered Respiratory Therapist credential. Under the supervision of the department manager and medical director a Respiratory therapist I must have successfully completed either an associate's or bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy. All respiratory therapist I's must complete their board licensure testing as a CERTIFIED respiratory therapist and hold an active state license as a CERTIFIED respiratory technician and must obtain their REGISTERED respiratory therapy license within one year of hire. The RTI may provide care in all areas of the hospital, excluding NICU (at manager's discretion) but must be indirectly supervised by a registered respiratory therapist as per state law. Once licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist is obtained the RTI may be eligible for advancement to the RTII level. Summary: Registered Respiratory Therapists assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. The Respiratory Therapist II will be a graduate from an accredited associate's or bachelor's program in respiratory therapy and must have passed their licensure exam at the REGISTERED respiratory therapist level. The RRTII may work independently in all areas of the facility apart from NICU unless deemed appropriate by the management team. RRTII's are eligible for advancement to the RRTIII level upon successfully completing the requirements identified in the RRTIII description. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently. * Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of a patients and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Patient's family is included in teaching, as appropriate. * Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and that hospital policy is followed. * Demonstrates ability to assess patient, his/her need, and ability to tolerate treatment and reassessment for response to treatment.
