Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association company history timeline

1972

In June 1972, Stephen R. Keay replaced McGlone as the executive director, Keay was the assistant superintendent of schools for Kenilworth and had a strong history with the park districts in Chicagoland.

1973

The South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA) (Chicago Heights, Crete, Homewood Flossmoor, Olympia Fields, Park Forest, Park Forest South and Steger) was formed in June 1973.

1974

The Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) (Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Prospect Heights, River Trails, Rolling Meadows, Salt Creek, Schaumburg, and Wheeling) formed in January 1974.

2018

23 grand opening of its new 30,000-square-foot facility at 1221 County Line Road, the association’s officials announced the naming of the building for founding member Doctor Mitchell L. Slotnick, who died in May 2018.

2019

In 2019, the association purchased the building that previously had been the Lakeside Congregation for Reform Judaism, concluding a six-year quest for a new headquarters.
