The primary purpose of the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with RVT position is to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic techniques to perform routine, vascular, interventional, and non-invasive procedures. Ultrasound Technologist -performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs. Essential Responsibilities: Performs Ultrasound Examinations. Documents patient assessment and history. Provides patient education. Operates computer and ultrasound equipment for image production and documentation. Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity. Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal images. Enters and properly completes all patient information including exam charges and supplies into the Radiology Information System (RIS). Prepares films for interpretation by the radiologist in an accurate and timely manner. Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to unique needs of the department and respond appropriately. Communicate abnormal situations to proper sources in a way that facilitates resolution and/or tracking. Actively engages other health care providers (radiologist, surgeons, specialist, and mammographers) to ensure quality, continuity and appropriateness of care. Follows department procedures/processes/policies. Practices safety measures in radiography by adhering to all governing regulations. Vascular Interventional (VIR) Specific: The VIR Radiologic Technologist must be competent as the assistant to the Interventional Radiologist for minimally invasive, image-guided vascular procedures in roles that include scrubbing, monitoring, and circulating. The technologist must have knowledge of the various imaging equipment in use including fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT), and ultrasound. Neuro Interventional Specific: The Neuro Interventional Radiologic Technologist must be competent as the assistant to the Neuro Interventional Radiologist for diagnostic and interventional procedures. The technologist must have knowledge of the X-ray equipment in use, hemodynamic monitoring, cerebral angiogram coiling, avascular malformations, stroke interventions and sterile technique. Modifies exam protocols as necessary to fully evaluate the presence and extent of any disease processes present. Adapts imaging techniques and practices to acquire the best images possible while maintain the safety of both the patient and technologist. 3. Applies experience and critical thinking skills to maximize departmental throughput and maximize effective use of limited resources. Collaborates effectively with other departments and nursing units to expedite performance of requested examinations while minimizing disruptions to the patient and hospital operations. 10% Trains new Associate Technologists and Vascular Technology Students in non-invasive procedures 1. Discusses anatomy and vascular physiology associated with the test in general and specifically as it relates to each patient's pathology. 2. Familiarizes the technologist or student with current scientific articles and reference books pertaining to the procedure s . 3. Discusses and demonstrates equipment operation. 4.
