More than 170,000 students have attended NCC since it opened in 1961.
Norwalk Community College and Norwalk State Technical College were each founded in 1961.
On July 1, 1992, NCC and NSTC merged to become a comprehensive, public two-year college known as Norwalk Community-Technical College.
In 1997 HCC had approximately 2,700 students, and moved in January to its first permanent campus at 900 Lafayette Boulevard in Bridgeport, immediately experiencing a significant enrollment increase.
In 1999, the NCC west campus was expanded to include the William H. Schwab Center for Information Technology.
In 2000, Norwalk Community-Technical College was renamed Norwalk Community College to better reflect the institution’s role as a community resource and partner in the prosperity of Fairfield County.
Beacon Hall opened its doors for the fall semester in 2008, sharing the campus with Lafayette Hall which housed the administrative, business, registrar, and financial aid offices, classrooms, the HCC Library, and the Burt Chernow Galleries.
In 2010, the college broke ground on another expansion project, the Center for Science, Health and Wellness.
In late 2016, Horizons at Norwalk Community College reorganized as an independent 501(c)(3) organization.
