The popularity of Victor Hugo’s historical novel Notre-Dame de Paris (1831), wherein the cathedral is the setting, was said to have inspired the renovations.
Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel, “Notre-Dame of Paris,” published in English as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” informed readers about the building’s decrepit condition.
In 1836 he traveled to Italy, where he spent 16 months studying architecture.
In 1909 she was beatified in the famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris by Pope Pius X. (2)
On August 26, 1944, a “Magnificat” was performed below the gargoyles and flying buttresses to celebrate the Libération from the Nazi occupation.
In 2017, The New York Times wrote that the cathedral was in dire need of a makeover.
In 2019, Notre-Dame began to celebrate its 850 years with great fanfare.
During a restoration campaign in 2019, a fire broke out in the cathedral’s attic, and the massive blaze destroyed most of the roof, Viollet-le-Duc’s 19th-century spire, and some of the rib vaulting.
The minor culminates with a new capstone course, Economy and Business in History, which Köll will teach in spring 2021.
