Founded in 1957 and located on 100 beautiful acres in Central New Jersey, Notre Dame prepares students for lives of fulfillment and service, rooted in Catholic values in the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy.
The first theatrical performance was Call me Madam in 1960, and three years later, the football squad beat archrival St Anthony’s by a score of 63-0.
The school changed it’s name to Notre Dame High School in 1960.
By June of 1961, those first eager freshmen had come full circle and led a student body of 1,325.
In 1963, Notre Dame High School became the first school in the Chattanooga area to become racially integrated.
During the 1964-65 school year, the school separated, and the girls moved to a new campus at 455 Palma Drive and retained the name Notre Dame High School.
Dedicated in 1966, the campus consisted of a classroom wing, a library, science lab-lecture areas, a fine arts room, and typing and home economics classrooms.
Valadie is a 1971 alumnus of Notre Dame and former teacher / coach / administrator at the school.

In the fall of 1974, Notre Dame High School came under the direction of James D. Phifer, the first layman to be named principal.
With the closing of Notre Dame College in 1977, the high school acquired the use of a second building.
In 1996, a new corporation called Notre Dame Ministry Corporation was formed.
In 1999, under administrator S. Georgiann Wildhaber, Notre Dame High School built a new road into the SSND Ripa Complex providing NDHS with a safer and more attractive approach to the school.
In 2010, Notre Dame’s curricular and co-curricular programs were developed into a single program, Education for Justice and Leadership, which blends the work of Facing History with the school’s mission, values, and Catholic social teaching.
Formed in 2014, this initiative also connects students from Notre Dame and other Partner Schools in the Bay Area who share a passion for social justice and the practice of upstander behavior.
