Responsibilities & Qualifications The Novelis North American Automotive team is looking for a Lead Engineer, Technical Development. The Lead Technical Development Engineer is a part of our Technical Development team for Automotive and will be located in our Novi, Michigan office. Collaborating with the Senior Manager, Technical Development, this role ensures Novelis products meet customer expectations for present and future demands through hands-on testing, material development, and executing & evaluating trials across multiple plants. This role provides guidance in developing recipes for the CASH & Finishing processes in our Guthrie, Kentucky location. The Lead Technical Development Engineer acts as an advisor to the Technical Services team and works closely with the Customer Solution Center to understand how plant process variables affect characteristics of materials required for automotive customers. Substantial growth in the demand for aluminum sheet for body structure applications provides an opportunity to efficiently interact with customer design and manufacturing engineers to develop and offer improved products with better value to automotive OEMs. This role supports all automotive and acts as a technical resource for internal and external customers - plants, OEMs, technical service teams, R&D, etc. This is a TCP (Technical Career Path) role, meaning the candidate will be evaluated at the time of hiring for the appropriate level within the TCP framework. Depending on experience and expertise, the selected candidate may be hired at Lead Engineer or another level such as Senior Engineer. Responsibilities * Connect with OEMs, as needed, on requirements & developments; prepares Senior Technical Manager and/or Technical Development Managers for OEM communications * Lead projects in partnership with OEM Engineering from concept to conclusion * Lead and contribute to discussions on all new alloy developments with regard to specific customer requirements * Identify customer requirements for aluminum sheet products, including alloy and appropriate surface treatments and topographies * Develop, problem-solve and recommend customer specifications, and identify or develop Novelis products and processes to meet them * Participate in customer design reviews * Problem solve issues with implementation of Novelis products into OEM manufacturing stream * Support the execution of the overall portfolio and hopper of improvement activities for Auto products at the various NNA operations * Identify, initiate, lead, facilitate, participate in, and/or direct long term product and process development and improvement activities to support achievement of our Novelis Focused Five goals * Design, lead, and collaborate on internal trials with Kennesaw and our Manufacturing plants * Develop product delivery specifications in conjunction with Novelis mills or blanking/tolling subcontractors * Perform extensive testing and lab work to validate process and product development efforts Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor Degree in an engineering field, BS targeted at Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering, preferred * Masters Degree in engineering, statistics, business administration or a Black Belt, preferred * Minimum 8-10 years' experience related to aluminum sheet processing in a technical, commercial or product development role * 5 years in an Aluminum Rolling Mill, Background in sheet rolling processes, Background in applied statistics, preferred * Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, interpersonal * Intermediate level statistical analysis * Problem identification / resolution techniques * Familiarity with organizational change and project management * Proficient in Microsoft Office tools * Excellent team facilitation and overall personal engagement skills * Ability to lead own workload, but optimally collaborate with team and outside engineering companies as needed * Results-oriented, with willingness to develop new designs in collaboration with internal partners and industry peers What We Offer: Novelis' benefits say a lot about how we care for each other.
