Regional Safety Manager- Generation (Houston/Pittsburgh)
Job Summary/Purpose
All members of NRG's safety function will be expected to own safety, work to prevent incidents and seek to improve with the understanding that zero harm is possible. The Regional Safety Manager will be responsible for providing support to assigned plants within their region in addition to developing, deploying, managing, and improving assigned safety and occupational health programs. The Regional Safety Manager will also be responsible for supporting the development of safety specialists and safety committees within their assigned region. There will be regular opportunities to demonstrate skills in change management, contract management and communications. Job Duties/Responsibilities
* Partner with plant leadership and plant safety professionals to develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and promote a safety over production culture

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

The Construction Site Coordinator (CSC) has responsibility to coordinate and supervise pre-construction, construction, and post-construction activities for Transmission and Distribution substation and line projects.
This position will cover our WestPenn Power service territories.
Responsibilities Include:
Fostering a high-performing safety culture through personal conduct and utilization of human performance principles.
Coordinating and supervising smaller to medium size projects or support larger projects under the supervision of more experienced Construction Site Coordinators.
Ability to clearly understand the scope of assigned project including the problem / need and the constraints of the scope.
Understanding how schedules are developed and utilized including CPM calculations, float, and predecessors.
Proactively managing scheduled tasks for all construction activities on assigned projects and report on schedule progress.
Participating with the project team to develop contractor bid packages. Participating in pre-bid meetings. Documenting and following up on the action items.
Assisting in performing constructability reviews with site walkdowns.
Coordinating material requests, need date & location, delivery, and verification of materials at the project site, staging, and monitoring for contractor use.
Coordinating staking of structures, wetlands, and vegetation as part of the project's scope assessment. Understanding how site actions impact project costs. Proactively understanding all estimate components for a project, and the relationship of estimate to the project Schedule of Values.
Ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards and specifications.
Understanding Quality Standards and specific quality requirements as defined for the outcome of construction activities.
Clearly articulating quality requirements for all vendors and others working on construction activities. Understanding resource needs on assigned projects.
Inspecting work performed by contractors against design and construction standards.
Understanding the typical risks on a transmission construction project. Implementing a construction risk management plan for anticipated construction risks.
Documenting project site meetings with contractors that address issues such as safety, performance, quality control, or adherence to construction schedules.
Ensuring all the stakeholders have necessary permit copies.
Maintaining digital / printed copy of the red line drawings of the project site.
Participating in contractor evaluation, project review meetings, and meetings concerning “Lessons Learned”.
Aware of procedures and policies designed to comply with ethics standards. Consistently applies ethic guidelines in working with stakeholders (external and internal).
Qualifications include:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related technical field required.
In lieu of a degree, 3 years of experience in commercial or industrial construction required.
Experience in electrical substation and / or line construction preferred.
Proven teamwork and interpersonal skills to aid in the resolution of compliance issues. Demonstrated ability in using Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Ability to deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.

Qualifications include:

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]
The Transmission Engineer designs and conducts analyses of a variety of wood and steel transmission structures and structure foundations, calculates wire sags and clearances using PLS-CADD, calculates NESC and OSHA clearance requirements, develops design packages for construction, creates bills-of-material for transmission line projects, creates standards and associated process flows for transmission structures and lines, conducts a variety of technical research and analysis, interprets results and assists in implementation activities. The ideal candidate will possess working knowledge of PLS-CADD. Additional experience with the Power Line Systems design suite, and foundation design experience using FAD Tools, Ensoft or similar program suites are a plus.
The successful candidate will provide a high level of service, continuous support, and proactive involvement surrounding technical subject matter to leadership and peers and will maintain a safe workplace for co-workers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements.
This is an on-site position located in Greensburg, PA.
Responsibilities include:
Developing and maintaining a safe environment for the transmission line network to ensure the safety of co workers, contractors, work crews and the general public.
Creating engineering designs and standards for transmission line projects that include wood and steel structures and structure foundations, line plan and profile, wire arrangements, field reports, transmission switch drawings and wire sag charts.
Directing survey crews and drafting personnel to gather and record data for transmission line design.
Supporting work crews during construction including office work and field visits.
Must be able to work independently as well as in teams to coordinate designs with other FirstEnergy areas of responsibility including Siting and Permitting, Project Development, Project Management, Maintenance, Forestry, Real Estate, Substations and Construction, as well as the Regional operating companies.
Working with various industry and regulatory groups as required to learn and advocate industry best practices (e.g., EPRI, CEATI, EEi, NATF, etc.).
Appearing on behalf of FirstEnergy at local public zoning hearings and planning committee meetings, and state utility commission hearings as a subject matter expert.
Providing engineering support and mentorship to employees to assist in their learning of transmission line standards, procedures, designs and associated issues.
Reviewing transmission line encroachments to ensure NESC clearance requirements are met. Coordinating encroachment responses with ROW Services and Transmission Line Maintenance personnel and ensure the public safety is protected.
Providing assistance during emergencies and storm related activities. Storm response duties may include time out of the office.
May be required to travel throughout the FE system and to other industry-related activities as necessary supporting FirstEnergy transmission initiatives
Qualifications include:
Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program. Civil Engineering is preferred.
A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
Minimum of two years of Engineering experience is required.
Demonstrated leadership skills; capable of communicating, motivating, and driving positive change and improvement.
Must possess strong organizational, computer and problem solving skills.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and PLS-CADD is a plus.
Demonstrated abilities of effective analytical and reasoning capabilities, good communication skills, including ability to effectively structure and confidently present information to peers, industry work groups, regulatory bodies, and leadership of FirstEnergy.
Must be able to handle a variety of complex issues and assignments.
