Job Summary: Plum Point Energy Station is a 680 net MW coal-fired power plant located approximately 50 miles north of Memphis near Osceola, Arkansas. The Plant Operator is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems and equipment on a continuous basis. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: * Responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required * Assures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner * Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, testing, inspection, and maintenance of all equipment related to an electrical generation facility * Operates equipment safely and with the intent to minimize risk to personnel and equipment * Operates/maintains plant equipment at maximum operating efficiency * Contributes to plant profitability by eliminating wasted materials and supplies and maintaining high productivity * Performs necessary maintenance activities * Writes and maintains equipment logs, operational logs, and other reports as required in a clear professional manner * Maintains readings, records and reports * Participates in daily preventative, scheduled and corrective maintenance activities in a safe, effective, and timely manner * Provides assistance with plant clean-up and housekeeping activities as required * Establishes good working relations with teammates, team leaders, plant technical experts, and engineers * Operates station vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, overhead cranes, and mobile cranes * Reviews instruction manuals and develops troubleshooting procedures for equipment * Reports upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Shift Supervisor * Make entries in the Operating Log and approve and issue Tag outs as required * Receive and respond to electrical, steam and fuel dispatcher's orders and requests * Perform emergency operations to maintain electric service and safeguard station equipment * Provide direction to Auxiliary Plant Operators to effect changes in plant conditions and chemistry * May also give direction to maintenance personnel on matters pertaining to plant operations * Performs other duties as required * Operate from established and well-known procedures under general directions and minimum supervision * Make decisions within prescribed operating and causality procedures and guidelines * Execute on recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm * Has authority to control the operation of the plant, and must always do so in a safe manner resulting in no accidents and in compliance with all environmental permits * Effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements * Perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio * Has the responsibility to both the customer and co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met Working Conditions: * Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.) * Work with hazardous materials may be required * Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions * "On call" status will periodically be required * Some overnight travel required * Rotating shift work is required Minimum Requirements: * High school diploma or GED equivalent. * Two (2) years' experience in plant operations or a related field required. * Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid Driver's License required. Preferred Qualifications: * Associate Degree in a technical field desirable. Primary Role Will work under direction of Chief Plant Operator, Production Supervisor, and Maintenance Supervisor having active involvement in and making process control decisions associated with the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater purification systems to optimize operational performance and assure regulatory compliance. Key Accountabilities Work with Chief Operator, take a lead role in the operation of WW plant, and associated facilities. Maintain process control through the wastewater processes including the establishment, maintenance, calibration and adjustment of process parameters/chemical feed rates necessary to optimize the process operation. Assist in scheduling and prioritizing plant maintenance. Perform routine repair of plant equipment including preventive maintenance duties. Insure required maintenance is completed on schedule. Monitor, establish, maintain and control flow through the treatment process and within the collection system to include CSOs and pump stations. Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures and provide training/oversight to other operations staff to assure SOP's are followed. Monitor the wastewater treatment plant and collection system and make adjustments as necessary to control their operation and maintain compliance with regulations. Assist in the preparation of data collection for Monthly Operating reports and maintain all necessary records. Monitor and conduct analytical tests. Perform water quality sampling, testing and analysis to determine compliance with federal, state and PAWC's standards. Coordinate and perform chemical deliveries and inventory. Loading, unloading, handling, placing into storage and batching wastewater treatment plant chemicals. Operate and maintain plant facilities including plant flow adjustments throughout the process, chemical adjustments, and pump adjustments including but not limited to primary sludge pumps, secondary sludge pumps, return sludge pumps and waste sludge pumps. Perform general maintenance duties at wastewater treatment plant and related facilities and other assigned duties. Position is subject to 24 hour call-out and overtime. Assist in the budgeting and implementation of capital projects. Coordinate activities of outside contractors as directed by Production or Maintenance Supervisor or Chief Operator. Facilitate safety training/tailgate talks/ Prejob briefs/ Site Inspections. Promote safety involving plant operations through employee training and monitoring workplace practices. Report near misses as necessary. Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, basic scientific concepts and water quality standards and regulations and Company procedures. Working knowledge of basic mechanical and automated control systems. Experience/Education High School graduate or state recognized education equivalency certificate. College course work and/or degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science or engineering curriculum are preferred. Must possess a valid PA driver's license. Attend continuing education as needed for Operator certification renewal. Overview The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Water-Wastewater Operator I. This role is under direct supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities. Work Location and Schedule This position will travel between service areas near Rockford, IL. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After-hour and weekend on-call support may be required.
