NTN Bower Corporation company history timeline

1985

In 1985 the Federal-Mogul Corporation entered into an agreement with NTN-Toyo Bearing Company, Ltd. of Osaka, Japan to form a corporation dedicated to the domestic manufacture of precision roller bearings.

1987

In 1987 NTN Toyo exercised its option to buy the remaining 40 percent of NTN-Bower and became sole owner.

In 1987, NTN acquired 100% ownership of the company.

1988

In 1988 the company established a technical center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and once again expanded its United States manufacturing operations, adding a bearing-hub production facility to its Elgin plant.

1989

In 1989 NTN Toyo shortened its name to NTN Corporation.

1990

In 1990, to facilitate the expansion of its manufacturing and sales capabilities in North America, the company invested $50 million to form NTN USA Corp., with the aim of creating a holding firm for its existing United States subsidiaries.

1993

NTN established a 13,000 square-foot, full-time Test Laboratory in 1993.

1996

The company took further steps to enhance its United States presence by acquiring the ball bearings division of Federal-Mogul, a Michigan-based machine tool manufacturer, in 1996.

2000

Closer to home, NTN was busy firming up its presence in Southeast Asia with the formation of NTN Manufacturing Company Limited, a bearing and CV joint manufacturing facility based in Thailand, in February 2000.

NTN implemented the first major change in May 2000, when it absorbed the NTN Sales Corporation into the parent company.

2006

The joining of NTN and SNR in 2006 allowed SNR to expand its business around the world while relying on NTN’s internationally renowned Research and Development capabilities.

2018

NTN welcomed its 100th anniversary in 2018 and is going ahead into the next 100 years.
