Purpose
Primarily a support role running multiple pieces of toolroom equipment to make parts to print.
Job Responsibilities

Safely use a tow motor, crane or jib hoist to move materials and tooling.

Job Requirements
Completed a high school or post high school machinist program or demonstrated the ability to perform the aforementioned tasks.
Proficiency in operating all common machining equipment, mills, lathes, grinders, etc.
Ability to program computer controlled toolroom equipment
Above average knowledge of computers
Ability to Stick and TIG weld is a plus but not required.
Use of all inspection measurement equipment standard in the tool making industry
Time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Read, understand and follow specifications and prints.
Good communication skills.
Moderate hand dexterity is required for this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Machinists at National Machinery will manufacture various parts and components for all facets of the business. Machinists will work individually as well as a in a group to accomplish both individual, department, and company goals.
Machine parts to specifications following instructions, drawings, blueprints, and specifications using boring mills or similar CNC equipment.
Download, edit, run, create and save new programs on various machine controls to meet engineering drawing dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
Work closely with Programmers, Manufacturing and Design Engineers to ensure a high-quality output with adherence to all safety standards.
Adhere to routing operation instructions to machine features to desired results, also must have the ability to evaluate sample parts, drawings, and engineering information to determine sequences of operations to machine products that may require specific feature rework or install.
Manually setup and machine parts to specifications using custom and standard fixturing with tools like tombstones, vises and modular fixturing.
Operate and maintain large CNC Mills, Horizontal Boring Mills or Double Gantry Vertical Mills to produce precision parts efficiently and effectively.
Working with large components and fixturing, use of rigging practices, large cranes and heavy equipment to properly set up and achieve requirements of machined components and/or assemblies.
Measure and examine completed parts for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, use of precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, depth micrometers and other measurement tools.
Work in a team environment to achieve the best results and share best practices and information throughout the department and organization.
Work independently and make decisions while using creative problem solving and decision skills.

Minimum Qualifications
Good understanding of CNC machining practices in low carbon, alloy, tool steels and other materials
Highly proficient in tooling selection for milling, drilling, tapping, reaming, and boring operations including calculating for speeds, feeds, D.O.C. to achieve the desired tolerance and finish.
Must be able to interpret and be proficient in both Metric and Inch, required for tooling, measurement, program editing and part requirements.
Ability to precisely measure and examine completed parts for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, depth micrometers and other measurement tools.
Able to meet an elevated level of efficient operation utilizing technical expertise including attention to detail, interpreting written and oral instructions, drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
Associate's degree or certification with concentration in machine trades or equivalent experience.
Experienced in crane operation and rigging of parts to build large setups to engineering prints. Set parts, accurately align, and position for zero pickup. Ability to safely roll parts over 200 LBS
Ability to work in a team environment to achieve the best results and share best practices and information throughout the department and organization, also be able to work independently following schedules in the most efficient manner

Job Description
Position Summary & Objective
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts.
Set up and operating manual lathes and/or mills.
Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings and other written instructions
Analyzes design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities.
Lifts and positions work piece on machine table, manually or with hoist, and secures it, using clamps, bolts, or fixtures.
Machining parts to print per specified tolerances.
Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths.
Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
Perform quality work checks to insure the product meets quality standards, using in process inspection tools and devices.
Use of overhead cranes to set up material on machines.
Qualifications
Knowledge and abilities
Ability to:
demonstrate strong math aptitude;
interpret machine prints, geometric tolerancing, and dimensioning;
use a feed & speed chart or a calculator to determine appropriate feeds, speeds, and depth of cuts;
read blueprints and work from: sketches, diagrams, etc.
use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers
work overtime and weekends as work load dictates
Other Qualification
The physical strength and ability to properly handle tooling and to safely set up large work pieces;
Own tools of the trade, and the ability to use them effectively Working with engineers to produce quality parts to engineered specification.
Education, qualifications and certifications
High school diploma or equivalent, technical training and certifications a plus
Experience
Two - Five years' experience in large-part set up and machining and blueprint reading

Hours
2nd Shift: 5:00 pm - 3:00 am
