Primary Job Functions:
Perform engineering functions for custom design products. These functions will include (but are not limited to:
Gear tooth geometry analysis and ratings.
Shaft deflection analysis.
Bearing life analysis and selection.
Lubrication system design.
Housing design.
Gear drive layout.
Assembly and testing notes.
Review and approve drawings from designer detailers for release to the shop.
Enter requisition text for major raw material items into BaaN system for purchase.
Secondary Job Functions:
Point contact for technical communications (post order) with customers and sales personnel.
Disposition Nonconforming Material Reports (NMR's).
Issue Engineering Change Notices (ECN's) when appropriate.
Support shop / assembly when questions or issues come up.
Create detail drawings when necessary.
Other functions as required by management.
Qualifications:
B.S. Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of five years' experience in linear/rotational machine design a must (experience within gear industry preferred).
3-D modeling experience, Solid Works experience a plus.
Able to read and understand machine drawings.
BaaN (ERP System) experience a plus.
Microsoft Office applications.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Creative thinker and problem solver.
Capable of managing multiple priorities.

Job Summary:

Job Summary
The primary function of the Estimator is to provide accurate pricing information for the design and production of our industrial gears, gear drives or gear repair services. All Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. MET's will not be considered. As an Engineer at PLP's headquarters, you will help provide product engineering services, including product development, product modifications, and technical service.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Provide technical support to Marketing and Manufacturing for existing product offerings.
* Evaluates alternative materials for cost reductions/improved performance.
* Helps with new product development and product modification work.
* Helps to develop product parameters, specifications, and engineering drawings.
* In conjunction with his supervisor and the Purchasing Department, works with vendors concerning tooling and part fabrication issues.
* In the product development process helps consider:
* Regulator issues
* Safety regulations
* Application procedures
* Quality acceptance criteria
* Verification Analysis
* Design review requirements
* Helps provide technical performance data necessary to support the sale of new and modified products.
* Helps extend, after proper testing and engineering evaluation, existing products to affect greater use by customers.
* Helps modify products to do specialized jobs required by customer and deemed necessary by marketing or engineering.
* Helps in handling field complaints and product failures. Helps analyze problems, solutions, or recommendations after proper engineering and laboratory studies. Consults with Materials Engineer to determine causes of material failures.
* Works with Production, Quality Assurance, and Materials Engineer in helping determine acceptable quality and resolving problems of questionable quality of products.
* Helps interpret engineering recommendations, customer specifications, and engineering drawings.
* Attends technical meetings, conferences, and specialized courses consistent with area of responsibility.
* Is capable of developing and conducting material test procedures to comply with industry and customer specifications. Prepares and performs analysis in support of product development.
* Uses Pro-E, SolidWorks design, or Auto-Cad software.
Qualifications & Requirements:
* B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
* 3+ years of product development experience
* Ability to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel
* A team player
* Very good written and verbal skills required

Summary: Design and oversee the development, installation and operation of machines, equipment or systems taking into account cost, availability of materials, strength and maintenance requirements, safety and manufacturability, appearance, impact on the user and on the environment.
Responsibilities:
· Performs engineering assignments with objectives and involves conventional types of plans and specifications.
· Perform design calculations and prepare equipment and/or material specifications.
· Ability to perform designs using 2D & 3D CAD and Simulation (FEA) software.
· Ability to design and troubleshoot hydraulic systems.
· May supervise or coordinate the work of designers and other technical support personnel.
· Set up control systems, e.g. testing of equipment to make sure those standards of performance, quality, cost and safety are met.
· Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and related specifications.
· Coordinate activities concerned with the technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineeringdesign and test problems.
· Compile data and prepare reports related to research and testing of new and existing products.
· Provides design support to Manufacturing.
· Responsible for complying with safety and quality systems procedures, as required.
· Act as a positive role model for all co-workers

Preferred Experience:
· Three to five years of proven experience in the design and/or manufacturing of electrical/electronic products or electro-mechanical systems.
· MRP applications experience.
· Should be familiar with the automotive industry and truck up fitting.
· Familiar with structural welding and weld symbols.
· AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience.
· Hydraulic, electrical and automotive experience.
· Firm understanding of Internal combustion engines and compressed air systems
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
· Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
General Competencies Required:
· Knowledge of computers and electronics design techniques, tools and principles.
· Ability to measure accurately using machine tools.
· Operations Analysis and Critical Thinking.
· Complex problem solving with emphasis on active learning.
· Knowledge of common application programming languages.
· Excel in interpersonal and written communication and organizational skills.
· Must have initiative, be willing to work independently and as part of a team, possess a strong desire to learn, and enjoy computing and technical design, and be practical and creative.
· Must be willing to adhere to safety requirements.
Mathematical Skills:
· Mathematical skills such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
· Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
· Strong applied math and applied physics skills.
Physical Requirements:
· While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
· The employee frequently is required to talk and hear, and frequently required to reach, stoop, kneel and crouch.
· Occasional lifting may be needed, of items not to exceed 50 lbs.
· The employee may also be required to lie under equipment to visually and physically check the installation of wiring.
· Employee may be required to work indoors in a shop environment and also outside in all weather conditions.
Additional Requirements:
· Company sponsored continuing education may be required.
· Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
