Summary: The role of the inspector is to observe and monitor the delivery of material to verify conformance to quality and quantity specifications. The inspector is responsible for receiving, inspecting, and grading inbound and outbound loads of scrap metal. Duties and Responsibilities: Inspect shipments of scrap metal received via truck or rail car, to ensure material meets specifications and is free from hazards in accordance with scrap acceptance policy. Correctly identify and record inspection data such as weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap metal through documentation, pictures, and reports. Assist and direct suppliers with inbound scrap deliveries and unloading at the correct commodity pile and/or processing area. Direct the unloading of vehicles delivering scrap to ensure safe and orderly traffic flow within the facility. Complete inbound inspection grader reports for every load that enters the yard. Notify operations supervisors of problems and assist in recommending remedial procedures to correct violations or issues encountered during inspection. Collaborate with marketing department concerning quality and consistency of customer deliveries. Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned. Perform general housekeeping duties in yard as needed. Strictly adhere to all BlueScope Recycling Health, Safety, and Environmental rules and standards. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Basic math, reading and writing skills. Knowledge of Non-Ferrous and Ferrous Materials. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work efficiently. Pass a pre-employment drug screening. Pass a pre-employment background check. Physical Requirements: Walk, sit, stand, stoop for long periods of time. Able to lift 30 lbs. and shovel material continuously for at least 8 hours per day. Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather. Key Responsibilities * Ability to troubleshoot and repair all in-line process, environmental analyzers, and personnel safety monitors. * Ensure analyzers comply with all permits and EPA monitoring requirements. * Provide regular calibration of all analyzers and process safety monitors. * Monitor and change set points of in-process GPC computers to maintain critical molecular weight of products. * Perform testing on critical OSHA Process Safety Management System Analyzers and critical EPA (Protective Control Systems, Environmental Control Systems), shut down unit when analyzer readings are out of safe limits. * Perform testing on critical Quality Control Systems as they come due, provide required documentation of completion, shut down unit when analyzer results are out of specification limits. * Provide specifications for new analyzer systems and process safety monitors. * Provide technical guidance to projects based on expertise and knowledge of analyzer technology. * Contact vendors for technical support and revisions. * Create Management of Change documentation for analyzer change work. * Utilize SAP for all parts transactions, issues, and replacements of analyzers. * Design and create Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs and test procedures for analyzers. * Perform non-manual work primary focused on maintaining asset management systems vital to ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements with regard to their specific engineering discipline. * Develop and specify maintenance and testing criteria to assure asset mechanical integrity with RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices.) * Utilizes independent judgment with respect to the scope of repairs to assets under their purview that can have significant business impact from both a financial, quality and HSE perspective. * Provide technical support and recommendations to operations and maintenance management to address gaps in asset performance. * Provide guidance and recommended solutions and technical support to maintenance, operations and projects department concerning scope of repairs and/or refurbishment/replacement of assets. * Evaluate asset performance to justify improvement of asset management strategies. * Manage the delivery of preventive and predictive programs to company assets and ensure compliance with programs. * Maintain health of asset records and issue written reports primarily concerning failure analysis with proposals for systemic improvements to asset management strategies. * Resolve structural gaps in management systems to ensure health of assets. * Assist in the selection of major assets for capital expenditure. * Participate or lead the development or revision to equipment specifications and vendor selection. The QC inspector will be required to know and implement the NAAMM standards. Quality Control Inspector in assigned Business Units. Work with all levels of the organization including, the Business Unit Manager, Supervisors, and Associates to create a smooth, defect-free process. Sample production from every station to significantly reduce/eliminate escapes from your assigned Business Unit. Approve and/or perform first-article inspections on a job requiring this level of oversight. Assure all associates are trained/certified (if required) to operate to perform the tasks they are being asked to perform. Assist in the training, development, and/or creation of proper training materials as required. Perform any required QCHECKs in the Business Unit. The measurement of effectiveness will be a reduction of IRRs in the Inspector's assigned Business Unit and no escapes from the Inspector's assigned Business Unit to other areas. Inspect output samples using industry-appropriate methods, such as comparing to standards, measuring dimensions, and examining functionality. Using gauges such as tape measure, calipers, and micrometers to measure products and assure Quality is built into the product. Reviewing blueprints and specifications to compare to produced goods. Check that the production line adheres to standards and procedures and complies with the Customer standards. Ask the Question: "Is there an SOP for this Process". Record inspection results by recording job numbers of inspected parts, summarizing issues and actions taken to keep production running with no significant pauses in the process. Use iAuditor to record the jobs inspected. Significant reworks, re-makes, and wastes will be input to the IRR System as needed. Helping train the production team on quality control measures to improve product excellence. Assist Associates in Transaction Control (Epicor). Help Associates attain defect-free entries. Monitor transactions to verify that the Associates are performing the task as required. Propose improvements to the production process. Assisting in the development of test methods and inspection plans. Help determine the causes of product defects and reworks. During product inspections, verify all equipment is calibrated correctly. Monitor the scrap hoppers three times during your shift and advise of any abnormalities. When needed, assist in the Sales Order Deviation Process. Always review issues immediately with the Business Unit Manager, Supervisors, and Quality Manager. The candidate must have strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). In addition, one or more years of experience with a manufacturing facility. The candidate must have excellent reasoning skills, be detail-oriented, accurate and complete assignments on time with little supervision. Must take initiative and be a self-starter. Must have knowledge of galvanizing quality, on-grip process, and quality as well as acceptable manufacturing standards.
