Nuclear Medical Technologist Qualifications:

· The Nuclear Medical Technologist will Prepare and administer radioactive chemical compounds, known as radiopharmaceuticals.

· 2-year Associates Degree in Allied Health (required)

· Graduate of approved program in Nuclear Medicine, or equivalent.
Possess a current registry in Nuclear Medicine (ARRT or CNMT) training, OBMI license

Our team of experienced technologists are doing cutting edge research studies and our site is designated as a SNMMI Center of Excellence in Radiopharmaceutical Therapy. You will work directly with our nuclear medicine physicians and Dr. Osman, who is known worldwide for his research work. You will be cross trained in PET and Nuclear medicine which feature a Phillips Vereos Digital PET/CT and 3 Ge Cameras, 1 SPECT, 1 SPECT/CT and 1 CZT SPECT/CT that are 2 years old. We have a continuing education resource center that facilitates free continuing education hours as well.

The PET technologist is responsible for performing all types of PET imaging, providing appropriate patient care for the exams, and administering radiopharmaceuticals specific for PET imaging.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (% of Time)

Essential Functions: The Following are essential job accountabilities and performance criteria:

Position Accountabilities

1. This position is responsible for the performance of PET imaging. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) 40%

Criteria

A. Performs PET procedures in accordance with the procedure manual.

B. Acquires images in accordance with the procedure manual.

C. Positions patients appropriately for the exam being performed.

D. Addresses any patient care issues that may affect the quality of the exam, and consults with the lead technologist and physicians as needed about such issues.

E. Processes the images at the conclusion of the acquisition to check for motion and other image quality issues.

F. Checks all images with the physician prior to the patient leaving the premises.

G. Archives images onto optical disk for future reference.

2. Draws and administers the correct radiopharmaceuticals to the patient I.V., oral, or inhaled. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) 10%

Criteria

A. Follows departmental and hospital policies and procedures regarding injection technique.

B. Uses good practices to minimize the possibility of extravasations.

C. Follows appropriate procedures to minimize the potential for misadministration.

D. Calculates doses according to patient weight, and checks the dose amount in the dose calibrator prior to administering it to the patient.

E. Logs all dose and patient information in the Syntrac dose management system.

A .Performs daily blank scans on the imaging system, and reports any problems to the Lead Technologist.

B. Performs daily constancy on the dose calibrator system and records the information in the Syntrac system.

C. Performs daily source and battery check on the GM survey meter.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of Radiation Safety and complies with all policies and procedures in regards to the ALARA program. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) 5%

A. Wears personal monitoring equipment at all times.

B. Keeps post injection patient contact to a minimum to reduce exposure.

C. Performs daily surveys and weekly wipes to monitor for contamination.

D. Uses good radiation safety techniques when preparing doses.
