NuCurrent was founded out of a graduate-student project at Northwestern University that focused on powering implanted neurostimulation devices wirelessly. From 2009-2013, NuCurrent focused exclusively on wireless power for implanted medical devices. We were challenged to develop a new type of antenna technology to deal with complex issues like transmitting power through inconsistent human tissue, Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limits, tissue heating, implant variability, and significant size restrictions.

Stephen Wasko serves as Vice President and CFO of ViMedicus. He has over 25 years of management experience in the healthcare diagnostics, advanced materials and nanotechnology, software, telecommunications and aerospace industries. Steve also has extensive experience in public/private technology commercialization, both in private company and public entity roles. Steve has served as CFO for Nanosphere, Inc., a life sciences company which uses breakthrough applications of nanotechnology to create new standards in medical care. At Nanosphere, he was responsible for overall financial management, raising over $100 million of investment capital to bring the Company’s products to the medical diagnostics marketplace. He also was President and COO of Molecular Diagnostics, Inc., a developer of cancer diagnostic systems; CFO and head of business development for Perceptual Robotics, Inc., a developer of Internet video software systems; and Senior VP, Corporate Development and founding CFO of Illinois Superconductor Corporation, where he led the company’s successful Initial Public Offering on the Nasdaq National Market. An engineer by training, Steve holds a B.S.E. in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in the same field from the University of Southern California, and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.
