JOB SUMMARY: The CNC Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of CNC machines to fabricate scenic and structural components for ASTOUND's event, exhibit, and environment projects. This hands-on role focuses on machine operation, material handling, and basic maintenance-executed with attention to quality, safety, and efficiency. KEY RESPONSIBILITES: Work as part of the production team in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Safely operate CNC routers or milling machines to cut various materials (wood, plastic, aluminum, etc.) based on provided programs. Set up machines for each job, including securing materials, loading tooling, and zeroing machine settings. Interpret work orders, setup sheets, and drawings to ensure accurate part fabrication. Monitor machine operations and make on-the-fly adjustments to maintain quality and prevent downtime. Handle raw materials and finished parts, ensuring proper labeling and organization. Conduct routine part inspections using measuring tools (calipers, tape measures, etc.) to verify conformity to specifications. Identify and report quality issues or machine malfunctions to supervisors or programmers. Perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning machines, changing bits, and maintaining a safe and organized work area. Assist with unloading, staging, and post-processing of cut parts (e.g., sanding, de-tab, edge prepping). Support other departments as needed in collaboration with carpentry, graphics, and fabrication teams. Follow instructions from the CNC Programmer, Manager, and senior department members. QUALIFICATIONS Experience operating CNC routers in a scenic, exhibit, or custom fabrication shop. Familiarity with KOMO, WEEKE, or similar CNC brands. Experience using hand and power tools for part prep and cleanup. Forklift and/or scissor lift certification is an asset. 1-3 years experience operating CNC machinery in a production or fabrication environment. Familiarity with working around G-code programs and interpreting simple machine readouts. Ability to read and follow job packets, part labels, and basic technical drawings. REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE The incumbent should be a high school graduate or equivalent, graduate of a military Air Intercept Control school or Air Weapons Control school and have 4 years' experience controlling aircraft using close and tactical control. This position requires 6 years' experience with electronic systems, radars, communications/video systems, and knowledge of their operational characteristics. The incumbent must be thoroughly familiar with testing procedures and experienced in directing the use of test assets and personnel to fulfill mission goals in an ambitious testing environment. The incumbent must have good verbal and written communication skills and be experienced in the use of computer terminals. The incumbent must be able to work duty days in excess of eight hours, shift work, overnight stays, and weekend work to meet required schedule demands. Working knowledge of word processing and integrated software applications is required. Incumbent is required to qualify for and maintain a government Top - Secret Security Clearance and must possess a valid, state issued driver's license. Job Description Role Description We're seeking a full-time Machinist to join our team on-site in Las Vegas, NV. This position requires a skilled machinist with expertise in precision aerospace manufacturing, capable of producing mission-critical components to exacting tolerances. You'll set up, operate, and maintain CNC and manual equipment to support the production of aerospace and defense parts. Working from engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models, you will ensure quality and reliability in every part produced. Key Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC and manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders) to fabricate aerospace and defense components. Proficiency in CNC programming and operation (Fanuc, Haas, or similar). Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to determine machining requirements. Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, and other inspection tools to ensure compliance with tolerances. Collaborate with engineers to ensure manufacturability of designs. Interface with vendors and tool suppliers as needed to support production. Maintain proper documentation of machining operations, setups, and quality checks. Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust tooling, offsets, or programs to optimize results. Perform preventive maintenance on machining equipment and uphold shop safety standards. Basic Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; formal machinist training or apprenticeship preferred. 5+ years of hands-on machining experience in aerospace, defense, or another high-precision industry. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or equivalent). Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and aerospace tolerances. Skilled with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges). Knowledge of machining materials common in aerospace (aluminum, titanium, stainless steels). Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety/quality standards. U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements. Desirable Qualifications 7+ years of experience in an aerospace or defense machining environment. Experience with 5-axis machining and advanced manufacturing methods. Welding experience (TIG, MIG) Toolroom experience EDM experience Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices. Experience working with engineers on prototype builds and production transitions. Eligible to obtain a U.S. government security clearance.
