Summary:
A CNC Machinist is expected to work in the CNC machining centers and is responsible for manufacturing and fabricating precision machined parts to meet customer and quality specifications on various types of CNC Machines.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for all duties and responsibilities associated with a CNC Machine Operator
• Follow sequence of operations and set up requirements - without supervision
• Setting machine and tool offsets. Confirming other Machinist's offsets on non-First Article parts
• Provide technical assistance and coaching to CNC Machine Operators
• Maintain adherence to Production Dispatch List and Production metrics
• Properly Stage material, tools, fixtures to support production schedule for assigned machines and minimize change over time.
• Provide feedback to Engineering and Quality to improve processes and reduce cycle times
• Troubleshoot and reestablish work and tool offsets, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality of productions. Reports all machine malfunctions to Maintenance or Application
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications:
• Five-year Milling Machine experience preferred
• Understanding in blueprint reading and GD&T strongly preferred
• Good mechanical aptitude strongly preferred
• Experience with troubleshooting strongly preferred
• Understand AS9100 or other Quality Management Systems strongly preferred
• Must have experience using measurement tools (e.g., caliper, micrometer, height gage, etc.)
• Must be able to read G Code
• Must have broad knowledge and ability to setup and utilize tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.

Work Environment and Job Functions:

Develop new machining processes to produce new parts or parts that have yet to be produced on the CNC equipment. Review part prints to identify tooling and fixture needs, developing new fixtures or altering existing fixtures as needed. Write new CNC programs, complete initial setup and troubleshoot the new process.
Set-up and install tooling necessary for parts production as directed by the Machining Team Leader. This involves obtaining tooling from the tool storage area, installing in any of the special production machines in the prescribed manner, and making adjustments to produce parts within stated manufacturing tolerances.
Check first piece dimensions after set-up to assure conformance with engineering prints and quality standards. Use a variety of measuring instruments; i.e. micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, plug and ring gages, etc.

Advise management of spare parts required for repairs to equipment and tooling, within budget constraints. Perform simple repairs to equipment as needed.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Compose, manufacture, and improve designs for molds, tools, dies, gauges, and other equipment to engineer the most effective manufacturing tooling.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Partner with Engineering Management to conceptualize CAD designs of company products by playing an active role in brainstorming and application design working sessions
Create designs with an understanding of the customers' needs as well as the company's capabilities by collaborating with sales, internal teams, and management to assure customer satisfaction throughout the design and building process.
Create designs in 2D and 3D through rendering, technical drawings, and assembled samples
Implement designs that address cavity notams such as the draft, flow, wall thickness, gates, venting, etc. as well as molding machine specs and capacities
Work with all departments as directed to ensure that proper interpretation of designs is executed into prototypes
Verify part or tooling geometry using engineering measuring instruments or computer aided design model verification methods
Print prototype designs in 3D concept visualization for multi-phase testing
Research vendor capabilities to deliver components required for the design
Review prototypes for quality, as well as the correct and complete interpretation of designs
Diagnose & troubleshoot failures. Communicate problem issues to the appropriate department
Evaluate prototypes and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions
Seek feedback from testing and various generational prototype phases and incorporate the findings and change orders into upgraded designs.
Ensure efforts follow compliance with regulatory requirements
Adhere to the production schedule, prioritize diverse assignments, and meet assigned deadlines
Strive to continuously innovate existing processes to increase throughput, reduce scrap, decrease costs, and improve quality
Participate in the plastic injection molding and mold layout processes
Resolve engineering problems that develop during the manufacture, test, or use of the product.
Review and act on Engineering change requests received from customers or manufacturing
Assist sales and marketing with layout?and concept drawings.
Produce potential design solutions that meet cost quality and performance requirements for all projects based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications
Assist in assembly and lab testing of prototypes
EDUCATION
REQUIRED:
Associate degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
PREFERRED:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL
REQUIRED:
Minimum of 7 years of CAD Designer experience
Lean Manufacturing experience
Cutter path verification experience
Knowledge of plastics and plastic mold interaction
Proficiency with SolidWorks, Master-Cam, CNC/NC, and CAD/CAM software
The ability to work with mathematical concepts such as portability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required
Verify the conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using measuring and inspection tools as necessary. Make mechanical and/or program adjustments to ensure parts are meeting quantity and quality requirements
Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems
Solicit and assess customer and patient feedback to improve designs and assure biocompatibility
