    Layup Parts

Numerical control operator job in Huntington Beach, CA

Job DescriptionBuild the future, faster. At Layup Parts, our mission is simple: deliver composite parts faster. We're not just another machine shop-we're a technology-first manufacturing startup that's revolutionizing how composite tooling and parts are made for the aerospace, defense, and motorsports industries. Our customers are developing tomorrow's high-tech products, and we are building technology to accelerate their success. We design, machine, print, and build faster than anyone else in the industry-and we're looking for machinists who thrive in high-performance environments and want to be part of the team that's redefining what's possible in advanced manufacturing. We value initiative and attitude and are building a team of outstanding individuals who take pride in their work, enjoy mentoring and learning from others, and are eager to tackle any challenge. What You'll Do: This isn't your typical operator role-you'll be hands-on in a cutting-edge, high-mix shop where no two days are the same. You'll: Set up and operate 3- and 5-axis CNC machines, including either Zimmerman, HAAS mills, and Lathes. Run both billet and non-traditional stock (e.g., 3D prints, foam, castings). Collaborate with engineering to provide real-time DFM feedback and drive rapid iteration. Occasionally work with LFAM 3D printers and get hands-on with hybrid manufacturing workflows. Perform post-process and in-process inspection of molds, tooling, and final parts using standard metrology tools. Move quickly between R&D prototypes and low-rate production runs. Communicate actively across teams-engineering, composites, inspection, and operations. Who You Are: Be awesome! Be the kind of person you want to work with! You take ownership of your work and always bring a “get it done” attitude. You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where speed matters. You're not just a machinist-you're a builder, a problem-solver, and a teammate. You believe in craftsmanship, but you're not precious-you prioritize iteration and progress. You take pride in high-quality output and speak up when something isn't right. Must-Haves: 5+ years of CNC machining experience including setup, tooling, and troubleshooting. 3+ years operating 5-axis gantry mills. Strong knowledge of G and M code and CNC operations. Familiarity with inspection tools like calipers, micrometers, and height gauges. Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods and work hands-on in a production setting. Willingness to learn new machines, processes, and tech on the fly. Bonus Points: Background in aerospace, defense, or motorsport tooling and mold making. Experience machining from complex or non-rectangular stock (e.g. foam blocks, prints, castings). Comfortable with Siemens or HAAS controllers. Past work in both R&D/prototype and production environments. Exposure to 3D printers (any type), hybrid workflows, or additive-subtractive processes. CAM experience with Tebis, Fusion, or ESPRIT. CAD familiarity with NX, SolidWorks, or CATIA. If willing to work 2nd shift, 1PM - 9PM. Why Layup Parts? Real Impact - You'll work on critical parts for some of the most demanding industries in the world. Tech-Driven - We blend software, 5-axis machining, and 3D printing to move fast and innovate constantly. No Bureaucracy - You'll be trusted to own your work, solve problems, and help us scale. High-Mix, Fast-Paced - From prototypes to low-rate production, you'll never be bored. Compensation and Benefits: Hourly Range: $30 - $45 per hour. Final compensation is based on your experience, skills, and what you bring to the table. Equity Option Grants: Most full-time team members receive stock options-because we believe in shared success. Full Benefits Package: Medical, dental, and vision coverage, short- and long-term disability insurance, company-paid life insurance Time Off That Respects Your Time: Competitive PTO plan with paid vacation, holidays, and leave options. We're not just building parts-we're building momentum. You'll be part of a small, fast, and tight-knit team tackling real engineering challenges every day. If you're ready to work hard, move fast, and push boundaries, you'll fit right in. Equal Opportunity Layup is an equal-opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will be treated with respect and receive equal consideration for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, uniform service, Veteran status, age, or any other protected characteristic per federal, state, or local law, including those with a criminal history, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable state and local laws, including the CA Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance.
