Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Set-Up Operator to set up and operate CNC machines in a precision manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Okuma, HAAS, and Fanuc controls, with the ability to write and edit CNC programs to ensure accuracy and efficiency. This individual must be capable of handling multiple set-ups and short-run jobs while maintaining high-quality standards and optimizing machining processes.
Key Responsibilities
Study blueprints, layouts, and technical charts to determine materials, sequences of operations, dimensions, and tooling instructions.
Write, edit, and adjust CNC programs as necessary based on engineering drawings and job requirements.
Select appropriate cutting tools and tooling instructions based on metal properties and machining requirements.
Position, secure, and align cutting tools in tool holders on the machine using hand tools, verifying accuracy with measuring instruments.
Adjust and set cutting speeds, depths, and feed rates to optimize machining efficiency.
Run machines through full cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls as needed to maintain precision.
Observe machine operations, inspect finished parts, and verify conformance with specifications using measuring instruments.
Identify and implement process and procedural improvements to enhance efficiency and quality in a machine shop environment.
Manage and prioritize multiple set-ups and short-run jobs while maintaining production schedules.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all company safety protocols.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
5 to 8 years of experience in a precision machine shop environment.
Ability to set up and operate CNC machines with Okuma, HAAS, and Fanuc controls.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings and tolerances.
Strong knowledge of CNC programming, tooling selection, and machining principles.
Experience in troubleshooting and making adjustments to improve job performance.

As a member of the Machine Shop department you'll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside fellow machinists, design engineers, and quality inspectors. This position will serve on-site at the machine shop in Goleta, CA.
In this job role the machinist will independently set up, operate, and machine using a variety of machine tools such as lathes (manual), mills (CNC and manual), and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions. Machinists will interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; use a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment and determine material, parts, and equipment required. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Sets up and runs production machines. Performs machine operations (including reworking parts) such as cutting, shaping, deburring, forming, drilling, and reaming parts, where the materials, tooling, and sequence of operations have been pre‐planned and established. Makes necessary machine adjustments and reports improper functioning or cutting action for correction.
2. Performs operations such as tapping, spot‐facing, chamfering, countersinking, and counterboring to close tolerances.
3. Aligns and fastens parts using standard fixtures and established methods.
4. Adjusts feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to machine quality parts, per documentation.
5. Removes burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, or other irregularities from machined parts. Burring operations involve general production parts ranging from the simplest to the more complex.
6. Inspects parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments, gages, and comparators. Uses various types of magnification equipment to detect and avoid damage to surfaces and critical areas. Visually inspects parts for burrs and damaged machined surfaces.
7. Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.
8. Accurately and regularly performs all statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.
9. Actively participates in lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Applies lean concepts and tools in work area.
10. Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.
11. Performs other related responsibilities, as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Two years related machining experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Able to read and follow blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions.
Has working knowledge of machine shop mathematics, may include trigonometry.
Effectively applies lean initiatives.
Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
Interprets reports and uses job specific software applications. Able to use employee self‐service systems to access on‐line information and use specialized automated systems (i.e., PMR, TORS, e‐mail).
Effectively demonstrates team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self‐development activities.
TYPICAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time. The team member is required to demonstrate manual dexterity and use hands to operate machinery. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Also expected of the team member is regular attendance, and the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

POSITION SUMMARY

Receive, store and issue tools, jigs, fixtures, templates and shop supplies. Use a computer terminal to track tooling activity and tool locations.
Coordinate tooling requirements with manufacturing engineering, purchasing and other functions.
Maintain records of all tooling and fixtures sent to suppliers.
Observe all safety rules and regulations and maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.
Maintain records of withdrawals, returns, breakage and reconditioning.
