The Tooling Specialist's primary responsibility is steel tooling accompanied with any and all work required or assigned to ensure that a smooth flow of production is maintained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description - other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed. Alter and repair a variety of carbide and steel production tools and dies, involving blanking, piercing, forming, and cut-off dies, etc., where design and specifications are usually available. Work from prints, sketches, specifications, and general instructions of the departmental foreman or group leader. Must be able to interpret simple prints, relating to design and product specifications and/or the general verbal instructions of department supervisor. Under direction of section group leader and supervision, modify ordinary design features to improvise or alter tooling to meet new conditions. Maintain accurate relationships, fittings and interchangeability of parts requiring tolerances to within .001 inches to meet all specified drawing requirements consistently on all types of tools, dies, jigs or fixtures. Recognize, and report for correction, blueprint errors such as improper radii, angles, dimensions, materials, and similar data which would prevent economical production. Disassemble and repair or alter tooling to meet specific requirements. Remove removable sections, fit, assemble, and adjust component parts and mechanisms to required accuracy to unsure satisfactory results. Ability to properly use all tool room measuring tools and gages to ensure part accuracy of all work performed. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow standard safety regulations. Detect faulty operation or defective material and refer all unusual conditions to superior. Record production, material, and time data. Perform other similar and associated duties as required or directed. Self-motivated to take ownership of work schedule and quality. Continuous improvement: Willing to accept change to support being a Fast - Flexible - Efficient section. Team player will work with other team members in the section to keep the process moving and improving. Customer focus: Work closely with other team members both inside and outside the section to satisfy the needs of internal and external customers. Understanding of basic principles and terminology and can solve simple problems related to standard basic manual tool room equipment. Checks initial work piece for conformance to dimensions and specifications before proceeding with multiple production parts. Makes subsequent runs to complete the job, periodically checking parts for conformance to dimensions and specifications. Provide feedback to next shift, support staff, and supervision as it relates to machine condition, process status, tool life for perishable tooling, and fixture condition. A Machinist P1 is also responsible for documenting actions by completing production and quality logs. Clear communication is a must in that the Operator must be able to interpret XYZ axis movements and safely jog a machine utilizing the pendant or control while avoiding collisions with fixtures and parts. This role, machinist, one must be able to understand the basics of G and M codes. This role goes beyond button-pushing - we need someone confident in setting up, dialing in, and producing complex, one-off, and low-volume parts with high precision. Perform full setups on CNC mills and/or lathes from print or model - including indicating vises, fixtures, and part zeros. Experience with multi-axis machining or live tooling. Strong understanding of machining processes and techniques. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
