About the Role
We are looking for a Senior/Staff Safety Standards Engineer to join our Safety Group. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and operationalizing compliance with all relevant AV safety standards and best practices. You will work cross‑functionally with engineering, operations, and legal teams to ensure that Nuro is following best practices and emerging industry standards for autonomous vehicle safety.
Responsibilities
Serve as the subject matter expert for AV industry safety standards (ISO 8800, 5802, 9001, 26262, SOTIF, etc.).
Develop, maintain, and socialize internal processes, templates, and guidelines for safety documentation, ensuring internal processes map to industry standards.
Train engineering and V&V teams on current interpretations of standards.
Work with cross‑functional teams to translate requirements into actionable development and test artifacts.
Ensure traceability from system requirements through to safety case arguments and evidence.
Support external certification or regulatory audits as needed.
Advise on updates and improvements to align with evolving standards and regulatory expectations.
Monitor industry trends and emerging best practices in AV safety.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering discipline or related field, with 5‑8+ years of experience in safety‑critical domains.
Deep knowledge of ISO 26262, SOTIF, and adjacent standards.
Demonstrated ability to drive cross‑functional compliance in a hardware/software product environment.
Experience with safety argumentation, safety cases, and V&V integration.

Compensation
For this position, the reasonably expected base pay range is between $160,360 and $291,150 for the level at which this job has been scoped. Your base pay will depend on several factors, including your experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. About the Role
Our operations team is growing and we are looking for Autonomous Vehicle Operators (AVOs) to join us. In this role you will be responsible for operating our autonomous test vehicles that run proprietary software and hardware, while helping train our self-driving technology.
