Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Long Term Care for a 13-week travel assignment in Anchorage, Alaska. Summary:
A Registered Nurse (RN) in a long-term care (LTC) facility provides skilled nursing care to residents, ensuring their health, comfort, and well-being. RNs oversee patient care plans, administer treatments, monitor for changes in condition, and collaborate with healthcare teams to provide high-quality, resident-centered care. They also play a key role in supervising nursing staff, educating residents and families, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.
Essential Work Functions:
Assess patient or resident health, monitor for changes, and take appropriate action to ensure their well-being
Develop, update, and implement personalized care plans in collaboration with residents, families, and the patient care team
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
Observe residents for any medication reactions or changes in condition and report concerns to the healthcare provider
Provide treatments including wound care, IV therapy, catheter management, and other skilled procedures within scope of practice
Supervise and support LPNs and CNAs, delegating appropriately and ensuring residents receive quality care
Educate residents and families on medications, treatments, and managing chronic conditions
Document care provided, resident progress, and any health changes in a timely manner
Respond quickly to emergencies, delivering critical care and coordinating with medical teams when needed
Work closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to facility safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
Sensory - Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate

Job Requirements
The following are required:
An associate's degree from an accredited college or university.

Substitutes wishing to work long-term assignments (lasting longer than 19 consecutive days) must, in addition to the above, have:

Essential Job Functions

The **Flight Nurse** is accountable for the completion of all **Airlift Northwest** work assignments. They are responsible for the safety of patients prior to and during transport to medical care facilities. This includes provision of basic, as well as advanced life support measures required to stabilize the critically ill or injured patient. The position requires proficiency in the care of critically ill and injured patients across the age spectrum from newborn to the geriatric population and knowledge of the adaptations necessary for patient management in the aircraft and during flight. The Flight Nurse must also be familiar with aircraft operating procedures and safety practices. The ability to establish positive interpersonal and professional relationships is essential.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** :
Safety is the flight nurse's first priority. As such, you must comply with all published safety policies and procedures. If you observe an unsafe practice or condition in any aspect of organization, you must initiate reporting and resolution of the issue. This may include submission of safety concern forms to ALNW safety committee. Will actively and positively participate in shift briefings, cabin checklists, debriefings and other procedures. Acquires extensive working knowledge of policies, procedures and protocols related to the Airlift Northwest program. Acquire and maintain a strong knowledge base in critical care practice. The Flight Nurse is accountable to the Chief Flight Nurse for adherence to written standards care and ALNW policies and procedures. The Flight Nurse must be able to stabilize and manage patients involved in air transport from interfacility ICU transports, as well as the management of specific air medical problems in flight. The Flight Nurse is expected to have knowledge of applicable sections of the Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Selects and prepares special equipment for transport according to patient needs and aircraft used. Is responsible for checking bags, equipment and aircraft prior to departure. Prepares aircraft environment for anticipated patient needs on the outbound trip:
1) Oxygen therapy, 2) equipment for airway management, 3) IV fluids, 4) specific medications and 5) other required treatments.
On arrival at referring site, introduces transport personnel, assists with and directs stabilization procedures and preparation of the patient for flight. Consults with appropriate medical control. Compiles necessary documents and data to be transported with patient. In-flight, is responsible for delivery of total patient care. The Flight Nurse continually monitors patient status in coordination with another flight nurse and intervenes as necessary. The Flight Nurse maintains electronic and written records of patient condition and care provided according to established standards and guidelines. The Flight Nurse assists in additional patient care as required on arrival to the receiving hospital. All records and reports are transferred to receiving personnel. After transfer of the patient is complete, the Flight Nurse is responsible for restocking flight bags and aircraft. Equipment must be cleaned and maintained so that it is ready for the next flights. Any problems with equipment, patient management or other agency personnel will be immediately reported to the Airlift Administrator on Call and/ or the Medical Director as appropriate. Participates in post flight debrief with crew and communication center. Completes flight records, computer charting, and airway documentation tracking and other quality improvement projects and data collection as required. Participates in any debriefing meeting with Medical Director, Chief Flight Nurse, Nurse Managers and other staff as appropriate when requested. Attends no less than ½ of the scheduled flight team meetings per year. Is responsible for the information provided in the minutes and educational content of the flight nurse staff meetings. Must maintain currency in all required licensure, certifications, professional certifications, education, skills training, and clinical rotations. Participates in teaching and training of orientees and Flight Physicians. Participates in public education programs and public relations functions. Is responsible for a positive public image of Airlift Northwest at all times while on duty. Develops proficiency in the use of radios and/or giving short reports. Will uphold all Airlift Northwest policies and procedures related to Compliance, HIPAA and all applicable federal, state and/or local laws and regulations. Recognition of small work pool assets and extra shift coverage may be requested to ensure aircraft staffing at a variety of bases. May be sent (at the employer's expense) to work within FTE at another FW based within organization. This will not exceed 30% of the employees' FTE unless mutually agreed upon. Other duties as required.
COMMENT: Extensive training in the required skills, altitude and flight physiology and stabilization standards will be provided.
**ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS** :
Seasonal exposure to extreme cold and heat. Frequent temperature changes from outside to inside. Exposure to noise and vibrations during flight. Exposure to hypoxia during flight. Exposure to high-ionized radiation during flight. Possible exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals during transport of patients who have been exposed. Possible exposure to dehydration, motion sickness, gas expansion, sudden decompression during flight. Possible exposure to undiagnosed communicable disease.
**REQUIREMENTS**
Nursing License in good standing. Must obtain Alaska and Washington license prior to start. Graduated from an accredited nursing school. Five years' experience in a critical care, Emergency department, and/or specialty care area with preference given to a combination of pediatric/adult experience. Excellent physical health with full use of all extremities and no lifting limitations. No vision limitations or hearing deficit. The Flight Nurse must also be in excellent mental health with the ability to cope with extreme emotional and physical stress. Conforms to current guidelines for weight. Adherence to Airlift Northwest dress code. Adherence to all Airlift Northwest policies and procedures. Airlift Northwest is a dynamic flight program which may, in the future, choose to position/move aircraft to distant locations. Refrain from drug/alcohol use 12 hours prior to shift start. Special Skills: advanced clinical assessment, prioritizing and stabilization skills. Ability to communicate well and promote positive interpersonal relationships with patients, families, health care and aviation professionals. Desire to promote and maintain favorable public opinion of the flight program. Two-year commitment to the Airlift Northwest flight program. A current passport is a prerequisite to hiring. Must carry a passport on all transports. ACLS, PALS, NRP, BLS current prior to hire, trauma course to be provided and maintained. Advanced nursing certification (CCRN/CEN/CFRN etc.,) required prior to hire. Must obtain CFRN within 2 years of employment.

The Registered Nurse (RN) at VOA Alaska is responsible for providing holistic, trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and patient-centered care to adolescents in treatment for substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring mental health disorders. The RN collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to support the complex physical, emotional, and behavioral health needs of clients primarily at ARCH which is 24/7 structured residential environment located in Eagle River. The RN will occasionally assist at other VOA Alaska locations in the Anchorage area. The RN provides nursing care and monitoring, crisis intervention, health education and care coordination in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct age-appropriate nursing assessments upon admission and throughout treatment, as directed by the Health and Wellness Director.
Collaborate with medical, clinical, and administrative staff to develop and update individualized care plans.
Collaborate with Behavioral Health Associates (BHAs) and the Residential Staffing Manager (RSM) to support daily program needs, client monitoring and safety, including basic illness and injury management.
Administer and document scheduled and PRN medications, including psychotropic medications and medications for addiction treatment (MAT) including extended-release buprenorphine injections.
Educate clients and caregivers/BHAs on medications, health, and wellness topics under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director and psychiatrists.
Monitor and manage withdrawal symptoms using appropriate protocols (i.e. CIWA, COWS) and standing orders developed and overseen by facility psychiatrists and practitioners.
Monitor vital signs, manage chronic conditions, assess physical development, and provide basic illness and injury care within the RN scope of practice; consults with the facility practitioner for situations requiring primary care services.
Respond promptly to medical and psychiatric emergencies, ensuring client safety and supporting suicide prevention and self-harm risk protocols, collaborating with medical, clinical and other team members.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with program policy, state and federal regulations.
Support discharge planning in collaboration with the case manager, medical and clinical teams.
Model and support trauma-informed and culturally sensitive care.
Develop therapeutic relationships with clients based on trust and consistency.
Provide daily support to the youth and model healthy emotional regulation.
Offer a consistent adult presence for adolescents with complex trauma or mental health needs.
Help coordinate outside medical appointments including specialty referrals.
Collaborate with the Health and Wellness Director on medication administration processes and scheduling for daily med pass windows.
Qualifications:
Active, unrestricted Alaska Registered Nurse license
Eligible to bill for services through Alaska Medicaid
Minimum one year experience as an RN working in a behavioral health or SUD setting, ideally working with adolescents.
Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain.
Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and de-escalation skills
Ability to work with adolescents, their families, and staff in an empathetic, friendly, and respectful manner.
Familiarity with EHRs and Microsoft computer programs such as Word, Excel and Teams
Excellent time management skills and task prioritization
Ability to travel if required (must have own transportation)
Work Environment
This position involves direct patient/client care in a 24/7 residential setting serving youth ages 12-18 and occasional assistance at VOA Alaska outpatient clinics to assist with administration of extended release buprenorphine injections The position may include day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. RNs must be able to respond to emergencies in a fast-paced, dynamic, and multidisciplinary environment.
Works in office areas. Interacts with staff, consultants, and outside vendors. May be subjected to interruptions throughout the workday.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirement includes close vision.
