Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Recovery/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Meets the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients and families. Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team regarding changes in patient condition or response to treatment. Reports to the Director of Surgery.

Patient Populations Served: Neonate, Infant, Early Childhood, Late Childhood, Adolescent, Young Adult, Middle Adult, Older Adult.
Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic, Clinical, Insurance, Financial, Complete Medical Record.
Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present; may involve contact with patients, blood, body fluids, or specimens.
Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting/moving patients, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards, including blood and bodily fluids, hazardous medications, and latex.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Join our team in the Seniors Unit where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of Registered Nurses (RNs). How you'll contribute
Provide direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice for behavioral health patients. Essential Functions
Perform plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
Document patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
Assist patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs).
Assess learning needs and deliver age-/culture-appropriate patient and family education.
Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Participate in unit and organizational performance improvement and required continuing education.
Provide quality patient care and work other shifts/units as needed; may be assigned on-call.
Perform other duties as assigned.

The position of Procedure Nurse is responsible for assisting the physician and other staff with caring for the patient before, during and after procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
During procedures, the essential functions of the Procedure Nurse position can be divided into the following three categories - (a) Circulating, (b) Moderate Sedation, and (c) Pre/Post-Operative. Circulating - In the procedure room, the Circulating Nurse manages all necessary care, assisting the team in maintaining and creating a comfortable, safe environment, for the patient and observing the team from a wide perspective. The Circulating Nurse uses critical thinking and assessment to direct care and activities for the team for the patient's best interest. The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
(1) Understanding principles of asepsis and sterile technique.
(2) Must be knowledgeable about how to separate specialized equipment used in the procedure room.
(3) Inventories all items both pre-post procedure.

(1) Demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, cardiac arrhythmia recognition and complications related to sedation/analgesia medications.
(2) Observes and checks all monitors prior to procedure to ensure proper function and patient safety.
(3) Assessing total patient care requirements before, during and after administration of sedation/analgesic medication.

Pre/Post-Operative -- The Pre/Post-Operative Nurse provides quality care to the perioperative patient. (2) Ensuring operative consents are signed, dated and timed.
(3) Obtaining and recording vital signs before and after procedure.
(4) Initiating intravenous therapy when applicable.
