Summary:
The Travel Cath Lab RN provides specialized care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and interventional treatments. The RN prepares patients for procedures, assists during interventions, and monitors immediate post-procedure recovery. Working closely with cardiologists and cath lab teams, this role requires advanced cardiac care skills, cardiac catheterization skills, strong communication, and the ability to adapt quickly while maintaining strict safety and regulatory standards.
Essential Work Functions:
Conduct assessment of patients prior to procedures, including reviewing medical history and performing physical exams
Assist in positioning patients correctly for the procedure and ensure EKG electrodes and cardiac leads are properly placed
Assist physicians during procedures, including the placement of catheters, wires, balloons, stents, structural heart devices, and other cardiac interventions
Operate and monitor hemodynamic equipment, recognizing and responding to changes in cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic waveforms
Assist in arterial and/or venous sheath removal using closure devices, manual pressure, or mechanical compression, and transport patients to the appropriate recovery area
Monitor vital signs, ECG, and hemodynamic parameters during cardiac catheterization and interventional procedure
Support post-procedure care, including monitoring patient recovery and ensuring a smooth transition to the next phase of care
Maintain and troubleshoot cath lab equipment, ensuring everything is functioning properly and fully stocked for procedures
Communicate effectively with team members, patients, families, and physicians to provide seamless care
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

At NorthBay Health the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who manages the clinical and educational resources and care standards for the adult medical/surgical/telemetry patient population. This CNS is a member of the Chief Nursing Officer's leadership team. This CNS's role, along with other members of the patient care services team, is to promote the provision of effective, high quality patient care to all patients. This CNS participates in the development of evidence based care delivery systems and clinical practice programs. The following responsibilities are included: oversight of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, fostering of interdisciplinary, collaborative relationships and is accountable for bringing innovative ideas from and to the bedside.
This role will coordinate and provide educational programs for staff which are pertinent to the patient population served, such as patient safety initiatives, pain management strategies, telemetry competency, advanced care planning including proactive discharge planning and other pertinent areas of nursing practice. The CNS works collaboratively with the Advance Practice Nurses, Learning and Leadership Team members, and nursing leaders to develop and validate the clinical competency of staff. This CNS works with physicians in order to establish a collegial and interdisciplinary patient care environment. The CNS is an independent consultant on clinical care issues for patients, families, staff, physicians and other departments. The CNS will be responsible for facilitating and managing patient care services division special projects as assigned.

Education:
* Master's Degree in Nursing required.
* MSN major in clinical nurse specialist, clinical nurse leader, education, or related health care field required.
Licensure and Certification:
* Current California RN License required.
* Current AHA or equivalent BLS and ACLS certification required.
* Current Clinical Nurse Specialist certification is required.
* National specialty certification in acute care or medical/surgical nursing is preferred.
Experience:
* Demonstrated working knowledge of healthcare practices, patient care equipment, and related products required.
* Minimum of four (4) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting required.
* Three (3) years of experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with progressive responsibility preferred.
Skills:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
* Possesses instructional ability, leadership ability, and high professional standards.
* Must be well organized, be able to set priorities, work independently and is an effective team member.
* Word Processing skills required.
* Statistical/data management skills preferred.
* Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing care for patients in appropriate age groups: Young Adult through Geriatrics. Knowledge of regulatory processes and Standards of Practice required (BRN, ANA, TJC, and Title 22).

Job Description
Nurse Specialist, Critical Care, evaluates individual nursing care needs of selected patients in the area of specialty; determines what types of nursing care would best meet those needs; designs a program of nursing care for each patient and works out practical methods of implementing this care after staff consultation and discussion; participates in the formulation of discharge plans; making provision for any necessary post discharge nursing care.
The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Provides direct nursing care to individuals or groups of patients where in-depth or specialized nursing care is required; in the psychiatric specialty leads in individual and group therapy sessions.
Gives professional advice and consultation services to registered nurses and public health nurses in specialized nursing care; defines objectives and principles of nursing in the area of specialty and assists nurses in developing their professional skills; may provide clinical supervision and education to professional and non-professional nursing staff.
Participates in formulating standards, policies and procedures for the specialized nursing plan, and relates it to other disciplines within the total treatment program; as well as to other health organizations and to the community.
Facilitates, directs, and in some instances initiates referrals of patients and families to appropriate professional personnel and community resources.
Participates in clinical investigations and studies in the area of nursing specialty.
In public health nursing, is responsible for on-going comprehensive study of needs for nursing and health care services in the community and assists with designing and implementing plans for meeting such needs.

License and Certification:
Registered Nurse License: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
