Summary:

Essential Work Functions:

Prepare equipment and aid physicians during emergency treatments and examinations
Monitor patient comfort and safety throughout their time in the emergency department, responding to immediate needs
Observe and document patient conditions as required within scope of practice
Take and monitor vital signs using clinical judgment to address deviations and prevent complications
Respond to life-saving situations based upon emergency nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
Document comprehensive nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR)
Initiate patient education plans according to individualized needs, considering the acute nature of emergency care
Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, specialists, paramedics, social workers and other support staff to ensure comprehensive care
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

Manages medical equipment and supply inventory. Ensures availability and proper preventative maintenance of emergency equipment. Troubleshoots malfunctions, initiates service and repair requests and inspects new equipment.
Ensures key performance targets are met, including but not limited to: Key Performance Metrics (KPI) metrics, wait times, patient experience and staff engagement and turnover.
Leads high quality selection, hiring and on-going training and education for clinical staff and Pharmacy/Medication Technicians. Facilitates orientation and onboarding of new clinical team members ensuring they are fully trained in their duties including philosophy of care, patient flow and clinical competencies.
Ensures regulatory compliance with OSHA, HIPAA and other governing agencies. Enforces clinical and quality standards and internal audit requirements of ChenMed.

Position Summary
Administrative Nurse I is responsible for directing patient care, related unit activities and personnel on an assigned shift utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework in order to ensure quality patient care and work flow. The ANI identifies work priorities, determines and coordinates daily assignments and staff scheduling. The Administrative Nurse I takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Administrative Nurse I functions as role model who directs patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical
* Completes required orientation program and unit-specific competencies
* On specified units, provides direct patient care (modified assignment); demonstrating clinical knowledge, skills and expertise.
* Makes patient care assignment and changes assignment as required according to patient's/unit's needs
* Reviews staff schedules utilizing Electronic scheduling tool. Coordinates staff breaks/lunches to ensure continuity of patient care.
* Directs workflow to facilitate timely patient care.
* Acts as a resource for unit personnel and aids in resolving questions related to policy, standards, and procedures
* Demonstrates critical thinking skills, conflict management and customer service skills in serving as a role model and problem solver for the organization and unit.
* Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.
* Recognizes and responds to patient care issues providing direction, feedback and follow-up to staff, manager and other healthcare team members.
* Contributes feedback to performance evaluation of unit personnel.
* Procures necessary clinical supplies and equipment. Follows up on repairs/maintenance of equipment as needed.
* Builds collaborative relationships with physicians to promote teamwork.
* Maintains overall knowledge of all patients' status in order to assist nursing and medical team members.
* Other duties as assigned.

* Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
* Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide "quality" patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting health care bodies.

* Actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council; supports department and unit goals in daily behavior.

* Assists in accountability of other staff members to enhance job skills and maintaining conditions of employment (i.e. competencies, CPR, and licensure).

* Identifies recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participates in problem solving and resolution.
Education/Research
* Serves as a role model and/or resource to other nursing staff and students.
* In collaboration with Patient Care Manager/Director/Ambulatory CNCII, assists with unit-based quality initiatives and
provides feedback and education to staff.
* Accesses medical center intranet/outlook for relevant communication and to review and interpret changes in policy,
procedure and other information pertinent to practice.
* Supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted on the unit and in UI Health.
* Takes responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and initiates
strategies to meet such needs.
Reporting Structure
* This person works independently within the scope of nursing practice. The Director or manager acting as coach and mentor, provides direction, guidance, and feedback regarding practice and performance. The employee's performance is evaluated annually in writing and more frequently if needed. The employee and Director or manager, Patient Care Services meet on an as needed basis for coaching and mentoring where support, guidance and direction can be given. The RN provides and receives input from peers regarding practice/performance
Minimum Qualifications
* Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
* One year of RN experience.
* Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
* Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
* Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
* Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
* Three years of ambulatory nursing experience.
* Two years of previous charge nurse experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Nurse Corps Officers may serve at any one of more than 250 Navy and medical facilities around the globe, from Hawaii to Japan, Germany to Guam and Washington, D.C., to Washington state. As a Navy Nurse, you could work at one of the highly acclaimed National Naval Medical Centers in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, VA or San Diego, CA.
