EO/AA The Associate Electrophysiology Nurse provides nursing care to Electrophysiology patients in the procedural lab. This position serves as the entry nurse position in the Electrophysiology Lab. The associate nurse performs at a task-oriented skill level, and performs troubleshooting and complex tasks under the guidance of experienced nurses. This position includes an orientation to the nurse monitor, nurse circulator and the scrub role for electrophysiology procedures in the lab and the hybrid OR. Associate nursing responsibilities include safety checks, equipment management, product entry, patient documentation in Epic, administration of medications, and moderate sedation, hemodynamic monitoring, rhythm interpretation, assisting in EP procedures in the Hybrid OR, assisting with anesthetized patients, patient preparation, scrubbing into sterile procedures and sheath management. During and after orientation, staff are responsible for seeking assistance with responsibilities outside of their current knowledge level and are active participants with area leadership to create a plan for advancing practice past task orientated care. Responsibilities Tests, monitors, and maintains safe equipment handling for proper and safe operation. Properly uses Epic for patient care and procedural documentation. Administers intravenous and oral medications to patients as needed for Moderate Sedation or Anesthesia Support. Prepares patients and equipment for electrophysiology procedures by preparing the site of entry, draping patient, arranging sterilized instruments and catheters, and calibrating, and setting-up monitoring/mapping equipment, pressure transducers, and tubing. Obtains and records hemodynamic, electrical, and angiographic data by operating hemodynamic and electrical amplifiers and digital and line fluoroscopic equipment. Performs associate nurse circulating functions during the procedure. Develops and contributes to a plan of nursing for the patient's care. Assists in the collection of arterial and venous blood samples and respiratory gases. Monitors patient's vital signs. Participates in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Properly decrements supplies from inventory and restocks supplies when time allows. Performs sheath removal and manual pressure as needed for hemostasis. May perform scrub role for surgical implantation of pacemakers, interval cardiac defibrillators and cardiac ablation procedures. Assists with the department's required quality programs. Participates in a rotational call schedule for procedures after scheduled hours, limited weekend hours and holiday coverage. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above at the associate nurse skill level. Ability to provide care to the population served. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual. Knowledge of electronic monitoring devices. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills in alignment with Promise Standards Demonstrated leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high-stress situations. Ability to deal with hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients. Qualifications QualificationsRequired Two (2) years of previous nursing experience. Licenses Required Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah. Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. Current RQI Healthcare Provider ALS eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. This position is located on the inpatient unit of the Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital, assisting our physicians with the inpatient service. You will coordinate all patient care responsibilities with your supervising physician and your work will include: Responsibilities Essential Functions 1. Be a key team member with physiatrists, residents, consult physicians, and nursing staff. 2. Assess the physical condition of neurologic patients (stroke, traumatic brain, and spinal cord injured) by performing oral and physical examinations. 3. Work in an interdisciplinary team environment with physicians and other team members (nursing and therapists) by developing daily treatment plans based on patient status. 4. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, with the assistance of attending physicians, to identify and assess the patient's clinical condition and related health care needs. 5. Initiate and/or recommend therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy. 6. Complete medical records and accurate documentation of patient care. 7. Work with hospital resources (social workers, discharge planner, etc.) in counseling patients, families, and significant others about the health care continuum options upon discharge from the Rehab Unit. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area. Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills. Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served. Minimum Qualifications Required Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Preferred Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Utah State prescriptive privileges. Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. This position includes an orientation to the nurse monitor, nurse circulator and the scrub role for electrophysiology procedures in the lab and the hybrid OR.
