    Under the general supervision of a Physician and the direction of the Executive Director, the Nurse Practitioner delivers comprehensive primary health care services at the Student Health Center (SHC). These services include assessment, diagnosis, preventive care, and health maintenance. Working under a physician's supervision and following established standardized procedures and/or process protocols, the Nurse Practitioner collaborates with the SHC Executive Director and supervising Physician(s) to develop and refine these procedures and define the position's scope of practice. Responsibilities include performing physical examinations; diagnosing, treating, and managing illnesses and injuries; ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; and counseling patients on preventive health. The Nurse Practitioner also leads infection prevention and control initiatives for the Palm Desert Campus SHC and participates in health promotion activities on campus. This role is primarily based at the Palm Desert campus, with occasional work at the San Bernardino campus. Duties and Responsibilities: Conducts comprehensive physical exams and obtains detailed medical histories using appropriate clinical techniques and diagnostic tools. Diagnoses and treats common acute and chronic conditions, develops treatment plans, and provides preventive counseling. Provides reproductive health care services, including STI testing/treatment, contraception, pregnancy care, and medication abortion. Interprets medical histories, exams, and test results; follows up on abnormal findings through intervention, counseling, or referral. Assesses psychosocial issues, offers counseling within scope, and makes referrals as needed. Administers first aid, urgent care, and emergency coordination. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests; performs CLIA-waived testing. Documents treatment plans, prognoses, and referrals; maintains complete records for continuity of care. Prescribes medications and counsels patients on conditions, treatments, and preventive health. Performs minor procedures (injections, immunizations, biopsies, suturing, wound care, orthopedic procedures, incision/drainage). Responds to life-threatening situations per protocol.
