The Oncology Counseling Specialist:

Responds to the need for crisis intervention.
Provides initial screening for grant and Sunshine Fund recipients.

Participates as a member of the Oncology multi-disciplinary care team and collaborates to assist with patient's treatment, self-care, education, and support.
Attends meetings and supports the departmental QI program by tracking quality improvement initiatives focused on psychosocial and distress issues.
Required coordinating and reporting member for the Commission on Cancer committee.
Utilizes background and skills to work cooperatively with Oncology Services, other professionals, and external community organizations and agencies to provide leadership and expertise for oncology psychosocial care and the care of other medical patients.

What We Require:
Education: Master's degree in social work (from a school of social work accredited by the Council of Social Work Education).
Experience: Must have met continuing education requirements from VA Board of Professional Health Regulatory Boards plus a minimum of two years post licensure experience required.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: LCSW, OSW-C preferred, or must be obtained within 3 years.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, other health care providers, and management entities.

Performs treatments for assigned resident's and documents that treatment as required by Regency, state and federal regulations.
Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.

Assure that adequate supplies are available to personnel who perform procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluids.
Monitor Nursing service to ensure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
Ensure that all nursing work areas (i.e. nurse's station, med rooms etc.) are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
Ensure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
Participate in the review and revision of care plans and assessments as necessary, but at least quarterly.
Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of an ongoing Quality Assurance Program for the nursing department as pertaining to Wound Care Management.
Contact families of residents with skin treatments on a weekly basis with an update.
Ensure Medical Director and Director of Nursing are made aware of wounds that are not responding to treatment weekly.
Consult with RD, Dietary Manager and PT on complicated wound healing.
Oversee the facility Infection Control Program, to insure each infection is monitored and follow-up labs as ordered.
Prepare the monthly infection control report with tracking and trends.

Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner.
Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Nurse Corps Officers may serve at any one of more than 250 Navy and medical facilities around the globe, from Hawaii to Japan, Germany to Guam and Washington, D.C., to Washington state. As a Navy Nurse, you could work at one of the highly acclaimed National Naval Medical Centers in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, VA or San Diego, CA. Provides nursing care and high quality pre-hospital advanced life support care within his/her scope of practice from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation.
Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to the Clinical Base Lead and Education Manager. Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures and attends continuing education programs pertinent to his/her area of practice.
Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Air Methods CBS. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to insure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies onboard aircraft to deliver patient care. Keeps aircraft clean and orderly to insure rapid response to all transport requests.
Functions as a medical flight member by attending pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and completing necessary documentation. Assists in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assists pilot as requested, i.e., radio, navigational, and visual observation activities. Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment and conducts aircraft safety briefings as needed.
Serves as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel when transporting specialty patients by helicopter and performs advanced skills and procedures as approved by Air Methods CBS Medical Director(s).
Participates in patient and referring institution follow-up and in planned outreach marketing and education activities
Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned and communicates program goals and objectives.
Participates regularly in Air Methods CBS meetings, activities, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities). Maintains awareness of current issues related to pre-hospital care through participation in professional activities, i.e., national, state legislative--elected or appointed.

High School Students
Through a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Nurse Option scholarship, the Navy can cover the full costup to $180,000of your nursing education at some of the best colleges and universities in the country.
Nursing Students
If youre a nursing student opting to serve full-time in the Navy, you could get up to $34,000 to help pay your way through nursing school through the Nurse Candidate Program (NCP).
Graduate Students
If youre a graduate student enrolled in a postgraduate nursing program in certain nursing specialties and opting to serve part-time as a Reserve Officer, you may qualify for up to $50,000 in nursing school loan repayment assistance.
Practicing Nurses
If youre a practicing nurse opting to serve part-time as a Reserve Officer, you may qualify for an immediate, one-time sign-on bonus of up to $30,000. And depending on your specialty, you may have the option of choosing between a sign-on bonus, nursing school loan repayment assistance or specialty pay.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Nurse Corps Officers may serve at any one of more than 250 Navy and medical facilities around the globe, from Hawaii to Japan, Germany to Guam and Washington, D.C., to Washington state. As a Navy Nurse, you could work at one of the highly acclaimed National Naval Medical Centers in Bethesda, MD, Portsmouth, VA or San Diego, CA. Or you could provide medical support aboard one of two dedicated hospital shipsthe USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy. Additional opportunities are available on surface ships, with aircraft squadrons or even with the Fleet Marine Force.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
To become a Commissioned Officer in the Nurse Corps, qualifications include:
U.S. Citizen between the ages of 18 and 41
Currently licensed and practicing nursing in the U.S. (new graduates must obtain a license within one year of beginning Active Duty service)
In good standing (as a student or graduate) with a CCNE-accredited U.S. education program granting a
Bachelor of Science degree
General qualifications may vary depending upon whether youre currently serving, whether youve served before or whether youve never served before.
PART-TIME OPPORTUNITIES
There are part-time opportunities as a Reserve Navy Nurse. Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Nurse, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Nurse Corps Officers in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
