Job Description
General Summary
Under the direction of professional nursing staff, provides direct patient care. Takes vital signs, checks surgical dressings, aids patient's with activities of daily living. This role performs blood draws and collects specimen samples. Observes and collects data and communicates about the patient's status in order to identify needs and provides needed care. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care services team.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks

Measures and documents dietary intake and patient urinary and stool output. Documents calorie count. Measures and documents patient weight.
Conducts indwelling urinary catheter care. Applies, maintains and removes external urinary catheter devices.
Conducts blood glucose monitoring.
Provides wound care to promote healing and maintain structural integrity of the skin. Performs skin care and hygiene and reports impaired skin integrity and/or wound impairment. Assists with appropriate strategies and/or treatment measures to provide wound care.
Assists with collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing. Incorporates proper techniques for patient identification, method for collection of appropriate specimen(s) and documentation.
Provides orthopedic/rehab device care: e.g. braces, splints, CPM. Dons/doffs compression wraps/stockings.
Participates in hourly patient rounding in collaboration with the health care team.
Responds to patient triggered alarms, including call light, chair alarm, bed alarm, tele-sitter alarm, etc.
Complies with the The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals within scope of practice.
Detects, reports, and acts to avoid or correct safety risks. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
Provides professional vigilance to assigned patients, including when assigned as a patient safety companion.
Incorporates safe lifting techniques and body mechanics in daily practice.
Improves patient flow and prevents care delays.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) required.
No previous experience required; previous direct patient care experience in a health care facility preferred.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccine administration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support. Position may float to other sites/locations within the system.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality and safety standards. Complies with governmental regulations and accreditation standards.
Assists providers with patient preparation for the examination minor office procedures and with the examination and education of patients. Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory accreditation and quality/safety standards by maintaining and auditing temperature logs ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired checking and maintaining emergency equipment area free of clutter and other related tasks.
Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations served and engages the patient in self-management support care/health goal setting pre-visit planning and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities.
Performs selected patient and laboratory testing consistent with the scope of the practice including but not limited to Point of Care Testing tuberculosis skin testing electrocardiography pulmonary function tests and vision and hearing testing (dependent upon provider and site requirements). Removes sutures/staples after the provider has examined the patient and written the appropriate order. Documents these activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR) or other venues based on policy.
Documents clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR; performs required patient follow-up: to include pap smears Pb levels HIV mammograms and STD's. Collects and processes specimens completes requisitions and documents in logbook or other applicable forms/records.
Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. Provides chaperoning for patients per policy.
Fulfills infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned which many include: Light cleaning during clinic hours and cleaning of equipment. Updates appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manages drug and medical supply inventories.
Provides telephone screening services to gather information from patients determine appropriate disposition and document per established telephone screening protocols.
Under onsite provider supervision may insert intravenous catheter for physician initiated IV fluid therapy or administration of intravenous medications. Under direct onsite physician supervision may insert remove and monitor urinary catheter for procedures and prepare and administer oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal subcutaneous and intramuscular. May perform phlebotomy.
Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization.
Floats to other sites/locations within the system as appropriate and performs all duties at multiple sites.
Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to regular staff meetings and training classes for safety infection control OSHA CLIA BLS and others as required.

Prepares patients to be seen by providers. Assists providers and registered nurses in patient examinations and procedures.

Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients/families including changes in the patient's condition to the registered nurse and other care team members as necessary. Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician Trainee at the Murray Developmental Center located in Centralia, Illinois. The incumbent will, for a period of time from six (6) and not to exceed twelve (12) months, receive instruction and training in providing care for individuals with developmental disabilities. Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Clinic has been providing outstanding patient care for the past 33 years. Nestled deep in the beautiful bay area 5 minutes from downtown Annapolis is our state-of-the-art ER and referral center open 24 hours and 365 days a year. We have 25+ Veterinarians, 50+ Technicians, 20+ Assistants and 20+ Client Service Representatives. We work side-by-side with different specialty practices (Neurology, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Rehabilitation) and care for their patients overnight.
Shift Times Available:
9am-7pm - Triage
2pm-12am - Triage
12pm-10pm - Admitting/ICU
4pm-2am - Admitting/ICU
11pm-9am - Admitting/ICU
8pm-8am - ICU/Specialty Care
What You'll Get to Do
As a veterinary technician you will:
Assess patients upon arrival and prioritize them based on their health status after obtaining vitals
Initiate stabilization treatments such as intravenous catheterization, blood collection, fluid therapy, oxygen therapy and administering medications as directed by veterinarian
Participate in the development and implementation of treatment plans created by the veterinarian
Administers high quality patient care through timely monitoring; correctly performs treatments as directed by veterinarian
Collect and analyze blood, urine, fecal and skin samples in our in-house laboratory full of Idexx analyzers
Administer anesthetic drugs and adjust them as needed during procedures and surgery, while recording and monitoring vital signs
Produce images of soft-tissues, organs and bones safely with digital radiography equipment
Place nasoesophageal and nasogastric feeding tubes for critical nutrition by mastering various suturing techniques
Supply patients in need with packed red blood cell and frozen plasma transfusions
Correctly calculate drug dosages and administers drugs as directed by veterinarian
Lavage and assist in bandaging different wounds and lacerations
Provide top quality care for post-surgical cases, including specialty ICU cases
Provides outstanding customer service when triaging, gathering patient information and relevant history

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Working knowledge and skill to nurse critically ill and emergency patients
Ability to critically think, problem solve, and make decisions in order to follow through on DVM orders

Education and Experience for Technicians:
1 year of veterinary technician experience
High School or Equivalent
Education and Experience for RVTs:
AA degree or BA/BS degree from an accredited veterinary technician program
Minimum of 1 year in emergency or critical care veterinary medicine
Candidate must be a licensed technician, or eligible to be licensed, in the state of Maryland.

About this Job:
The Medical Assistant-Float performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccineadministration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support. Position requires routine assignment (float) among multiple practice sites/locations in an assigned geographic region.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality and safety standards. Complies with governmental regulations and accreditation standards.
Functions in multiple practice sites as required based on role expectations of routine assignment (float) among multiple practice sites/locations in a geographic region of ambulatory practices. Supports/fills in at these sites to complement staffing needs and based on patient volume.
Assists providers with patient preparation for examination minor office procedures and with the examination and education of patients. Supports other members of the clinical care team assuring optimal best-practice patient flow; manages variable and unpredictable patient volume throughout the workday. Provides clerical support and serves as backup for the Patient Services Coordinator or other team members as needed.
Participates in daily team huddles to review and prepare for scheduled patient visits. Screens all patients regardless of visit type for preventative care needs ongoing support barriers to care safety concerns and potential fall risk. Conducts surveillance for transitions of care urgent/emergent care or follow up tasks such as retrieval of documents associated with referrals/testing.
Conducts motivational interviews that include patient screening and/or coaching on disease management ability motivation to change learning care needs and community outreach needs. Identifies potential behavioral health needs of patients using appropriate screening tools and notifies provider of findings.
As part of a High Reliability Organization reports actual and potential problems concerning patients families and associates using established reporting protocols for MedStar Health and/or work location. Participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety.
Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory accreditation and quality/safety standards by maintaining and auditing temperature logs ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired checking and maintaining emergency equipment area free of clutter and other related tasks.
Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations served and engages the patient in self-management support care/health goal setting pre-visit planning and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities.
Performs selected patient and laboratory testing consistent with the scope of the practice including but not limited to Point of Care Testing tuberculosis skin testing electrocardiography pulmonary function tests and vision and hearing testing (dependent upon provider and site requirements). Removes sutures/staples after the provider has examined the patient and written the appropriate order. Documents these activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR) or other venues based on policy.
Documents clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR; performs required patient follow-up: to include pap smears Pb levels HIV mammograms and STD's. Collects and processes specimens completes requisitions and documents in logbook or other applicable forms/records.
Provides escort for patients and assists with patient discharge activities. Provides chaperoning for patients per policy.
Fulfills infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned which many include: Light cleaning during clinic hours and cleaning of equipment. Updates appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manages drug and medical supply inventories.
Provides telephone screening services to gather information from patients determine appropriate disposition and document per established telephone screening protocols.
Under onsite provider supervision may insert intravenous catheter for physician initiated IV fluid therapy or administration of intravenous medications. Under direct onsite physician supervision may insert remove and monitor urinary catheter for procedures and prepare and administer oral drugs and injections limited to intradermal subcutaneous and intramuscular. May perform phlebotomy.
Utilizes the EMR to propose patient medication refills for provider approval. Completes requisitions for tests (if applicable). Contacts insurance companies for Pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization.
Attends scheduled meetings including but not limited to regular staff meetings and training classes for safety infection control OSHA CLIA BLS and others as required.
