A Brief Overview

Behavioral Health Techs may silence, trouble-shoot, or discontinue clinical alarms per providers/nursing orders. Responsible for observing, communicating/interacting with confused, violent, combative or suicidal patients with the intent to prevent injury. • Able to maintain calm demeanor and provide care with dignity and respect during stressful encounters. • The focused observer is expected to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors and to alert the nursing staff as patient care needs arise. • Accompany patient off unit as needed. • Maintains patients right's, including the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing nursing care and support to patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in a defined care team and in accordance with assigned tasks. An incumbent assumes responsibility, implementation and documentation of the delegated and/or supervised cares of all assigned patients according to established procedures.
Employees work as instructed and seek guidance on matters or tasks not specifically covered in original instructions. Care for patients with a variety of acute to critical medical/surgical problems ranging from neonates to geriatrics at various developmental levels. Patients are from both traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of sociocultural and educational backgrounds
Provides patient personal care/hygiene and physical comfort within assigned tasks, including feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothes, bed making, ambulation, lifting, turning, moving, transferring, enemas, skin care and bowel/bladder elimination. Provides such additional care as required to meet the personal primary needs and comfort of assigned patients based on skill, ability, and patient acuity. Prepares patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures/examinations.
Performs, monitors, reports and documents all clinical activities within assigned tasks. Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the RN.
Assists nursing staff in the admission, discharge and transfer of patient by performing activities such as inventory/storing patient belongings, providing patient with relevant personal care/comfort items, orienting patient/family and transporting patient to room or other location using wheelchairs, stretchers or patient bed.
Provides patient information to nursing staff for inclusion in the interdisciplinary plan of care; documents relevant patient data in accordance with work unit standards.
Maintains a neat and organized work environment. Orders, stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary, identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters equipment repair request in system, tags equipment and removes from service.
Participates in quality assurance/improvement initiatives and activities. Participates in growth opportunities.
Actively participates in ongoing education and orientation to the role of an RN, remaining within scope at all times.
Job Requirements
Current enrollment and in good standing in a full time Nursing Program such as an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Program or RN Associate Degree program or LPN to RN nursing program.
Active Nurse Aide (CNA) license in good standing in Nebraska

Student NurseTechnician
What is a student nursetechnician (SNT)?
Student nursetechnicians are CNAs who work under the direct supervision of an assigned RN in a Nebraska Medicine medical-surgical unit. In this role, SNTs perform all regular duties of a CNA, and will also participate in additional nursing tasks under RN supervision. These duties may include:
Performing and documenting physical assessments.
Administering approved medications.
Inserting peripheral IVs.
Emptying or flushing drains and tubes as ordered.
Assisting patients with activities of daily living and education.
Upon graduation from nursing school, eligible SNTs may have the opportunity to transition into a nursing role on the same unit.

Upon program end date, students may only remain in this role for a maximum of 3 months to complete their state licensure.
Student NurseTechnicians who successfully complete this program may, upon state Licensure as a Registered Nurse, be offered a nursing role at Nebraska Medicine. Offers are dependent on role availability, student performance during the program, and the student being in good standing
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of computer data entry and word processing preferred.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
