On an An Average Day you Will:

Complete an initial, comprehensive and ongoing comprehensive assessment of patient and family to determine hospice needs
Provide a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illness(es)

Requirements:
Must have at least one (1) year of acute care experience in an institutional setting
One (1) year of experience in home care preferred
Must have a current licensure in the state
Must understand the philosophy of hospice concept and understand needs of the terminally ill
Must be flexible in work hours
Must demonstrate nursing skills per competency checklist
Must demonstrate a willingness to maintain comprehensive working knowledge regarding information systems and applicable software programs
Ability to travel throughout the Bristol Hospice Service Area

Position Overview:

Training & Advancement

Qualifications & Requirements
A degree from a four-year college or university is a minimum educational requirement to become a Commissioned Officer. You must also attend Officer Training. There may be exceptions to the degree requirements based on extensive service experience. Additional qualifications include:

Part-Time Opportunities
When serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Nurse, your duties are carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Nurse Corps Officers in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.
For annual training, you may serve anywhere in the world, including locations in the U.S., at bases overseas, or in areas where humanitarian needs are great.

Most of what you do in the Navy Reserve is considered training. The basic Navy Reserve commitment involves training a minimum of one weekend a month (referred to as drilling) and two weeks a year (referred to as Annual Training) - or the equivalent of that.

Under general direction of the Education Administrator I (EA I) of the Office of School-Based Health Programs (OSBHP), in the Student Success and Career Readiness Branch, the Nurse Consultant III (Specialist) is the technical specialist who provides complex and sensitive consultation and works collaboratively with staff in the OSBHP, other program units within the Branch, and the California Department of Education (CDE). The incumbent provides highly skilled nursing guidance and support to local educational agencies (LEAs) to promote statewide direction, guidance, and leadership in school nursing and school health services, supporting the physical, social, mental, and emotional health of K-12 students through program and resource development.
The Specialist provides leadership and high-level consultation for LEAs and school nurses in developing, planning, implementing, and assessing school health services in accordance with approved standards and practices; serves as liaison and resource expert in school nursing and health program areas for local, regional, state, and national school health care providers and policy-setting groups.
The incumbent provides technical assistance and coordinates school health program activities with public health, social services, and environmental education agencies, and other public and private entities; researches, develops, and disseminates policies and procedures to enhance coordinated school health as described in the Health Framework for California Public Schools.
They stay current on research, educational trends, and policies pertaining to school nursing; act as the Division and CDE School Nurse lead; guide LEAs on coordinating school health programs; maintain program web pages; and disseminate best practices, resources, and guidance through newsletters, listservs, and social media. The position also builds collaborative partnerships with internal and external partners, including the Department of Health Care Services, Department of Public Health, California School Nurses Organization, and model LEAs, to support statewide implementation of school health programs.
Note: The State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 in July 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027.
