Identify potential physical problems and possible solutions impacting the health of children/youth in the Crisis Stabilization Unit. Provide group and individual education to children/youth and their families regarding physical and psychiatric diagnoses and treatment.
Jefferson Center's Children's Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) has a mission to use an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, residential counselors, medical staff and admissions specialists to provide brief, 3-5 day, crisis stabilization treatment for children and youth ages 5 to 18.5 with behavioral health issues, including depression, suicidal thoughts, other trauma reactions, and family issues. Our team coordinates treatment and provides tools and safety planning for children/youth and families so that they can safely return to their homes and the community. We are committed to serving Colorado's children/youth while maintaining a non-judgmental and inclusive approach.
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
* RN (BSN preferred) with two or more years of experience and/or training in a behavioral health setting.
* Two or more years' experience working with children/youth and families preferred.

* Perform physical exams for every patient upon admission.
* Coordinate psychiatric exams, if applicable, within 24 hours of admission
* Implement prescriber orders, either written or verbal.
* Administer medications to patients and ensure Medication Administration Records (MAR) are updated to reflect medication changes.
* Coordinate prescription refills.

Consult Assistance
Conducts trauma consults at LPH on new orthopedic patients in the emergency room and on the floor. CU Orthopedics is on call for ~30% of calendar days, at this time, including one weekend per month.

Position Overview
Denver Health is seeking an experienced PICU Charge Registered Nurse to join its Pediatric & PICU team for a 13-week travel assignment. This is a charge role with a hard requirement for prior charge experience and Level II Trauma experience.
This is a combined Pediatric and PICU unit that provides high-acuity care with strong interdisciplinary support.

Combined Pediatrics & PICU
20 Pediatric beds | 8 PICU beds
Acuity-based assignments
Ratios:
Days/Nights/Weekends: 1:3
New trauma patients: 1:1, transitioning to 1:2
You will not care for 3 ventilated patients simultaneously
Shared Charge Nurse model
Schedule & Requirements
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekends: Required (up to every weekend)
On-Call: Yes - 1 mandatory on-call shift every 4 weeks (rarely used)
Floating: Yes - Pediatrics, NICU, and Mother/Baby (within scope)
Orientation: 12 hours (plus modules completed pre-start)
Required Qualifications
Active CO or Compact RN License
Minimum 2 years PICU experience
Prior Charge Nurse experience - REQUIRED (Hard Stop)
Trauma Level II experience - REQUIRED
Certifications (AHA only):
BLS
ACLS
PALS
EPIC charting experience
Clinical Skills Required
Hemodynamic & CVP monitoring
Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
Ventilator management & advanced respiratory care (HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, ABGs)
Central lines, PICCs, arterial lines, ports
IV insulin, vasopressors, sedation, pediatric medication dosing
EVDs, VP shunts, lumbar puncture assistance
Chest tubes, trachs, airway management
TPN/Lipids, blood product administration
Infection control & isolation precautions

Summary:
To identify and assess health concerns and ascertain who and how the care for the student is to be done in the academic settings in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), which includes compliance with Board of Nursing, Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) regulations, Colorado Department of Education (CDE) requirements and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) rules. The nurse enhances and impacts student learning by modifying or removing health related barriers.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure mandated school health services in the educational environment, by identifying student health needs, interpreting health data, serving as the health expert, developing and implementing health care plans either self or through delegation to unlicensed personnel, and implementing screening programs and follow-up. Assist with psychiatric and behavioral health needs as well as substance abuse prevention and counseling when needed.
* Assesses the health of the school community/communities in their assignment by surveying health issue trends, monitoring accident and incident reports, gather surveillance and screening and interpret for needed change, assess risk and protective factors and communicate health and wellness issues to the school and community/communities.
* Advocate for the physical and emotional safety in the school environment by education and initiating prevention programs while intervening as needed.
* Protect against environmental hazards by recommending environmental safety and fostering policy development that is appropriate.
* Contain spread of disease by monitoring immunizations, utilizing and educating on disease control methods, educating on infectious and nuisance diseases and assisting in policy development and implementation.
* Respond to disasters and assist communities in recovery.
* Ensure quality of school health services and make health services accessible to students and families by aligning with national, and state school nursing standards and collecting data and submitting data as requested and reevaluate as needed.
* Collaborate and coordinate with students, families, community health services and staff by serving as a liaison and providing health related case management services.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
* Bachelor's Degree with a major pertinent to the position requirements: Nursing
* Minimum of one year experience in: Pediatric nursing, community or public health nursing or school nursing
* Active Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Registered Nurse (RN) license; required at entry
* Must have or be willing to obtain by official start date a CDE Special Skills Provider license with appropriate endorsement in School Nurse 0-21 (must upload license or in process documentation to application).
* Current CPR and First Aid certification from a nationally recognized program of instruction.
* Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application.
Preferred:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Able to care for and advocate for special needs students.
* Excellent interpersonal and outreach skills.
* Good ability to teach various audiences.
Salary Information:
Salary Range 2:$66,888 - $100,334
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
