As a Hospice Aide, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and provide various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort. The Hospice Aide is responsible for observing the patient, reporting these observations and documenting observations and care given.
Qualifications
Education: Must have a High School Diploma or GED. CNA or Home Health Certification required.
Experience: Hospice or Long-term Care experience preferred.
License, Certification and/or Registration: Must maintain a current Alabama Driver's License and auto liability insurance.

Possess adequate knowledge of the nursing home fire and disaster plans.
Use proper body mechanics, lifts, transfer belts, etc., to avoid self-injury.
Assume responsibility for self-improvement by reading and attending in-service programs.
Assist in maintaining a safe, attractive environment for the residents.
Possess knowledge of job requirements, nursing home organization and current policies and procedures.

At the end of this training, the employee is placed on the regular full-time schedule, and works as a non-certified nursing assistant. Within thirty days from the employee's hire date, the mentor will complete an orientation program.
Nursing assistants that are performing at a satisfactory level will be scheduled for testing. When testing is complete, and results have been received, the employee will be eligible for a pay increase and the title of Certified Nursing Assistant.
Employees who have not passed the certification test within the first four months of employment, will not, under any circumstances, be allowed to work as nursing assistants.

NOTE:
Federal regulations require that uncertified applicants complete a minimum of 75 hours of mandatory training, and pass a competency evaluation program within 4 months of employment. Applicants who complete the program are placed on the State registry of certified nursing assistants. This training is provided by the facility at no cost to the employee.
At the end of this training, the employee is placed on the regular full-time schedule, and works as a non-certified nursing assistant. Within thirty days from the employee's hire date, the mentor will complete an orientation program.
Nursing assistants that are performing at a satisfactory level will be scheduled for testing. When testing is complete, and results have been received, the employee will be eligible for a pay increase and the title of Certified Nursing Assistant.
Employees who have not passed the certification test within the first four months of employment, will not, under any circumstances, be allowed to work as nursing assistants.

Additionally, under the direct supervision of licensed nurses, the nursing assistant performs various duties to assist in the care of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
These duties include, but are not limited to, bathing, mouth care, ambulation assistance, toilet assistance, feeding, measuring vital signs and blood glucose, and transporting.
Responsibilities Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Measure and record blood pressure, respirations, temperature, and pulse rate.
Differentiate between normal and abnormal vital signs and when to report them to the RN.
Successfully weigh a patient and record.
Apply telemetry pads and leads.
Assess FSBS, record. Differentiate normal and abnormal values and when to report to the RN.
Feed patients.
Calculate and record meal consumption percentage.
Prepare skin for a surgical procedure.
Utilize turning and devices to prevent pressure ulcers.
Keep the patient's environment clean and free of clutter.
Measure and record intake and output.
Collect specimens.
Perform a total bath.
Perform appropriate perineal care.
Wash patient's hair.
Perform oral hygiene.
Change linen on occupied and unoccupied bed.
Assist with ambulation of the patient.
Perform active and passive range of motion.
Position and reposition the patient.
Assist with transferring the patient.
Understand and apply principles of DVT prophylaxis
Empty drains and record.
Provide care to the patient with a colostomy.
Properly care for the patient with a foley catheter.
Perform a bladder scan and record.
Remove Foley Catheter and Intravenous Lines
Follow implemented strategies for the reduction of falls.
Perform non-sterile dressing changes.
Hunt and gather supplies for the RN.
Qualifications Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:
Uses common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick
Understands technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels
Uses eyes, ears, hands and fingers with skill
Acts quickly in an emergency, rendering appropriate life-saving measures
Communicates with people
Change from one duty to another frequently
Follow and/or give precise instructions
Records and interprets information accurately
Able to care for patients of all ages
Current in BLS
Education: High school graduate or GED.
Experience: No previous experience required
