* Weighs residents using upright, bed or chair scale and records accurate weights per care plan or supervisor instructions.
* Records intake and output per protocol.
* Reports any concerns, complaints, reports of abuse, neglect or misappropriation to supervisor immediately.
* Reports any unusual resident behaviors, signs of depression or changes from usual routine or mood to supervisor immediately.
* Reports any physical symptoms, changes in bowel or urine changes/sudden decline in awareness or abilities to supervisor immediately.
* Disposes of soiled linen and clothing per facility protocols and maintains a safe and clean environment in resident rooms and bathrooms.
* Uses universal precautions and follows special instructions for infection control and isolation.
* For safety of both employee and resident, uses gait belt, shower chairs, lifts, scales, electric controls on beds and equipment responsibly, appropriately and correctly for tasks as trained. Reports any malfunctioning, fraying or broken equipment immediately to supervisor.
* Answers call lights promptly.
* Observes privacy and dignity of residents and does not share resident medical or psychosocial information with other residents, visitors or any unauthorized persons.
* Develops and maintains a good working rapport with other departments with the faculty.
* Consistently demonstrates professionalism and confidentiality.
* Participates in quality assurance program and attends appropriate QA committee meetings as directed by supervisor.
* Serves on other facility committees as requested.
* Attends all mandatory in service including annual fire, OSHA and CDC program.
* Maintains current CPR/BLS certification.
* Practices in adherence to national standards for electronic health care transactions and code sets, unique health identifiers, and security, including passwords and user ID codes, in compliance with the Privacy Act and HIPAA. Notifies Administrator, or Director of Nursing in the absence of the Administrator, of any known violations.

Resident Care & Support
* Provide quality care and assistance to residents in accordance with Legacy's philosophy, policies, and resident rights.
* Support residents in meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

As a care partner, the Medication Aide is responsible for administering medications as prescribed by the resident's physician. The Med Aide is responsible for ensuring that quality services are a way of life at Morning Pointe where every associate's interaction with residents and family members reflects the philosophy and mission of Morning Pointe.
Qualifications/Skills Needed: The successful candidate must hold a High School Diploma or GED and be a licensed C.N.A.- Upon successful completion of the medication aide course the candidate must have certification of passing the medication aide competency exam for the State of Tennessee. Experience in senior resident services, health care, or customer service is preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills are essential. Also prefer that the candidate have experience in working with older adults and knowledge of the aging process. A flexible work schedule is also a necessity.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Medication Aide Duties:
* Administers prescribed medications to residents and maintains related medical records under supervision of a licensed nurse or the DON: Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.
* If a resident requests a PRN medication the medication aide cannot administer the medication until the nurse performs an assessment and authorizes the administration. Once the medication is administered the nurse would need to reassess and document effectiveness.
* The medication aide cannot do any type of injections or treatments that require assessment.
* Presents medication to resident and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures.
* Takes vital signs or observes resident to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
* Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
* May receive supply of ordered medications for administration to resident.
* May record and restock medication inventories.
* Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
* Communicate with families, residents, and the interdisciplinary team when appropriate.
* Complete shift reports and documentation in records per company policy.
Physical Demands:
This position is classified as HEAVY, requiring exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift/move objects. Functional requirements include constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning, and stretching. Finger and hand dexterity is required. Visual and hearing acuity is essential. The ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions is necessary, and the ability to perform basic mathematical computations is required.
