Demonstrates personal accountability in economically using and caring for equipment and supplies. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Current enrollment in an RN or LPN program with successful completion of hands on clinical coursework. May remain in Nurse Tech role up to one (1) year after graduation from LPN/RN professional nursing program, until LPN/RN license obtained, or NCLEX is failed twice, whichever occurs first. Certification: Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider and maintain. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must meet unit-specific care requirements. Ability to speak and understand verbal and written instructions in the English language. Ability to focus and prioritize multiple activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Moderate Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently. Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance. May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead. May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise. Maintenance of a clean, safe and healthy environment, which may include light cleaning and straightening of the bathroom, straightening the sleeping and living areas, washing the patient of client dishes or laundry, and such tasks to maintain cleanliness and safety for the patient of client. Patient related activities as taught to the Certified Nursing Assistant by a Licensed Health Professional employee for specific patients. Such activities include: a. Assisting with the use of devices for aid to daily living. Example, a walker or5 wheelchair. e. Keeping records of personal health care activities 4. Observing appearance and gross behavioral changes in the patient and recording to the registered nurse. 5. Supervision of self-administered medication in the home limited to: obtaining medication container from the storage area for the patient, ensuring that the medication is prescribed for the patient, mind the patient that it's time to take the medication as prescribed, and observing the patient self-administering the medication. 6. The Certified Nursing Assistant may also provide the following assistance with self-administered medication, as needed by the patient, in accordance with 400.488.F.S.: a. Prepare necessary items such as juice, water, cups, or spoons to assist the patient in the self-administration of medication. b. Open and close the medication container or tear the foil of prepackaged medication c. Assist the resident/patient in the self-administration process, such as: steadying of the arm, hand, or other parts of the patient's body to allow the self-administration of medication d. Assist to the patient by placing unused doses of solid medication back into the medication container. Assisting with tasks associated with elimination: i. Toileting ii. Assisting with the use of the bedpan and urinal iii. Providing catheter care including changing the urinary catheter bag iv. Collecting specimens v. Emptying ostomy bags, or changing bags that do not adhere to the skin 7. THE CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT SHALL NOT PERFORM THE FOLLOWING TASKS a. Changing of sterile dressings. b. The CNA/Med Tech reports to the LPN Supervisor, and is responsible for fostering resident independence while supervising medication self-administration, dining, and other activities; observe, record, and report residents' physical and emotional conditions; maintain a comfortable and clean environment for the residents for the planning, directing, supervision, and delivery of direct resident care; for maintaining accurate and complete medical records; for utilizing safety measures in provision of care; for preventing spread of disease and infection by following established universal precautions; for attending staff meetings, classes and on-going in-service programs to improve knowledge and skills. Job Duties: Actively supports Lutheran Haven's Mission and Ministry. Demonstrates a willingness to be an effective team member by fostering positive relationships with teams and residents. Although encouraging resident independence, will assist as necessary with the following including, but not limited to: ambulation: getting in and out of bed, transfer techniques, walking with/without assistive devices; use of orthopedic appliances alone or with assistance dining: may serve and collect food trays. environmental needs: room temperature, safety, and appearance etc. personal needs: reading, writing, mail communication toileting care: clean clothes, personal grooming treatments and procedures when properly instructed: obtaining vital signs, weights, carrying out isolation techniques and procedures as directed. activity programs: communicate activities to residents regularly and assist with ambulation to activities as requested. Observe, record and notify appropriate individuals regarding resident abilities, health and well-being Follow incident report policies and procedures as they relate to employees and residents. Supervise self-medication administration. Ensure proper medications are available. Assist with resident transportation arrangements and preparing resident for off-site appointments. Records resident absence from facility as applicable. Assures that established infection control and universal precautions are maintained when performing duties. Attends mandatory in-services. Obtains the state required in-services per year. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Must have a current CNA certification in the State of Florida as a nursing assistant or show proof of application for reciprocity from another state. 4-hour Medication Administration Certificate is preferred but not required to be hired; OTJ training is available. Must attend HIV/AIDS training per state regulations. Must have current CPR card. Basic computer skills. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and ability to function on a professional level with clients, staff, and other outside professionals during stressful or emotional situations.
