Qualifications:

Required Skills and Experience:

* Outstanding customer service skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and handle multiple situations effectively
* CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
* Meet state specific qualifications for the role or willingness to obtain
* Physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 40 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors
* Able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children
* Read, write, understand, and speak English to communicate with children and their parents in English

General Summary

Attends scheduled classes/clinical rotations in a Nursing Assistant program approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON). The MBON approved course prepares you to safely perform delegated nurse functions with clients of any age and various levels of physical, sensory, motor, and emotional ability skills learned in clinical placement to gain experience in acute care/hospital under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Maintains a safe and clean environment, assists the patient care team to provide various patient care activities and maintains customer service focus essential for smooth operation. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to sit for the Certified Nursing Assistant exam required to obtain certification through the Maryland Board of Nursing.


Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

• Achieves competence in each of the roles through on the job training and didactic education.
• Provides direct patient care which includes bathing, making beds, feeding, oral hygiene, giving shampoos, turning, and positioning patients, and the like.
• Initiates CPR procedures.
• Identifies, records, and reports overt findings to the Registered Nurse concerning the physical and mental condition of a patient.
• Assists nurses in assembling equipment and in performing various treatments and tests.
• Administers and changes routine dressings to stage one and two wounds, surgical incisions, and peripheral IV sites after assessment by a Registered Nurse.
• Gathers equipment required to, and initiates placement IV for the patient as directed by the registered nurse.
• Performs venipuncture for drawing blood samples and established IV access.
• Performs urinary bladder catheterization for temporary or permanent placement and implements catheter care in stable patients as delegated by the registered nurse.

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
• CPR certification is preferred. CPR certification may be obtained as part of training matriculation if not already held.
• Actively enrolled in a Nursing Assistant program approved by the Maryland State Board of Nursing.

  1.Ability to learn and apply various patient care techniques, such as, routine patient care practice, aseptic technique, fire and safety, and infection prevention.
  2.Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members successfully to foster optimal quality of patient care.
  3.Effective listening skills are required in order to follow oral instructions properly. Ability to follow written instructions is required.
  4.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the health care team.
  5.Demonstrates sensitivity and awareness to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers.
  6. Ability to attend all mandatory hospital and department in-service training including CPR and safety training, annually.
