Instructor -- Summer Volleyball Clinics

The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Culture is looking for an enthusiastic instructor with knowledge of and a background in volleyball to lead youth/teen volleyball clinics in summer 2025. Clinics will be offered for youth/teens in grades 3-12 and are designed for beginners and intermediate level participants looking to learn the game and/or to improve all areas of their volleyball skills.
Instructors work with participants to help them develop and enhance the fundamental skills of volleyball including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, developing game strategies score keeping, and general knowledge of the game. We're looking for dependable individuals who can teach while promoting the sport for fun, teamwork, and exercise. You must be able to deal with children, parents, and other staff in a positive, reassuring, courteous, and professional manner, problem solve and make quick and sound decisions, and be committed to providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
Clinics will be held weekday evenings, June 23 to August 1, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m.; staff hours are approximately 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. Hours per week will vary based on operational needs, but will generally not exceed an average of 15 hours per week. Starting hourly rate will be within the range and will be offered at a level consistent with the relevant experience and qualifications of the candidate. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.
Job Functions

* Instruct participants on volleyball fundamentals and plan activities within program guidelines.
* Monitor progress of participants and assist with skills improvement.
* Perform regular safety checks of playing surface and/or equipment.
* Supervise participants to ensure rules are adhered to and the safety of all participants and spectators is protected.
* Maintain effective and consistent communication with program participants, staff, and program supervisor.
* Organize supplies and equipment; prepare venue for clinic activities and ensure equipment is available and functioning properly.
* Assist participants, answer basic questions, and provide information.
* Supervise 2 to 4 sports staff/assistant instructors.
* Create a positive and encouraging environment for participants in the program.

Qualifications
What you will need to be considered:
* Be at least 21 years of age.
* Knowledge of volleyball techniques and game strategy
* Previous experience teaching volleyball and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the game of volleyball in order to teach effectively.
* Previous experience instructing youth in a group lesson setting (required).
* Demonstrated ability to work with participants with varying abilities and skill levels.
* Excellent verbal communication and instructional skills.
* Physical skill and ability required to instruct others in volleyball fundamentals and the ability to lift/carry materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
* Member of a volleyball association or volleyball certifications preferred.
* CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred (may be obtained through the City upon hire).
* Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties.

The primary teaching responsibilities of this position include an Integrative Design Lab or an upper-level Design Lab for graduate or undergraduate students for both semesters and a required course or professional elective in the professional degree programs. Associated service to students and school could include Architecture Licensing advising, internship advising, and serving as liaison to professional organizations.
The Search Committee will look for expertise in areas such as: urban design, building design, professional practice, project management, and contemporary building practices such as adaptive reuse and green building.

Instructors work with consultant to deliver direct instruction to students in the areas of communication, transition, and pre-employment skills.
The instructor is responsible for identifying and increasing a student's strengths, interests, and abilities related to employment skills acquisition and job development; and is responsible for ensuring that the students learn competitive, marketable skills during their work experiences.
**Performance Responsibilities:**
-Assess the learning strengths and areas of development and interests of the student.
-With the student's input and the results of the assessments, develop goals and outcomes.
-Instruct students on employability skills such as but not limited to communication, technology, problem solving/critical thinking, teamwork, personal appearance, financial management, professionalism, self-determination, self-advocacy, resume' writing, interview skills, and job search.
-Assist the student in developing a portfolio to include certificates of skills attained, letters of recommendation from internships, etc.
-Utilize teaching methods, materials, curriculum fidelity, and adaptations appropriate to meet individual student's needs.
-Assess student's progress in the classroom and at the work experience site.
-Monitor and record daily attendance in class and at the work experience site.
-Teach student to inform instructor or supervisors at the work experience site of absences/tardiness.
-Assist student in training about public transportation and teach student to access public or private transportation.
-Have monthly written communication with consultant and other parties as identified and meetings.as needed.
-Provide employers at the work experience sites information about disability awareness and strategies on how to supervise individuals with disabilities.
-Maintain accurate and complete files for each student.

**Position Details:**
+ Instructors follow the students' school calendar for workdays. (180-185 days)

The Details:
● Title: Early Years Instructor ● Reporting to: Camp Manager ● Contract: Seasonal work in school holidays. ● Hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm weekdays. Full season or part season roles available and additional hours available for staff that hold a paediatric first aid qualification (usually 8am - 6pm).
Summary of Position:
The role of the Early Years Instructor is to ensure the welfare and safety of the children on camp, and
to deliver outstanding, structured sports, art and play activities to the Early Years children - our
Ultimate Activity Juniors. The activities offered at Ultimate Activity Camps follow the EYFS
requirements for learning and development, with the emphasis being on participation and quality.
With support and direction from the Early Years Leader, you will have a pastoral role, being a key
contact for the 4 and 5 year olds on camp, taking a lead in maintaining their welfare and providing
high quality care.

Essential Requirements:
Enthusiastic, energetic individual, passionate about working with, and developing children through play and activity.
Previous experience working with children aged 4-5 in a sport, art or education setting.
Confident instructor, able to adjust delivery and structure according to age and ability.
Good organisational and communication skills.
Flexible, team player, able to adapt to dynamic situations and challenges on camp.

Desirable Requirements:
