Alpha Supported Living Services nutritionist job description

The nutritionist will help individuals overcome health and diet challenges, provide meal plans and encourage clients to focus on their well-being. Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Nutritionist provides dietary oversight, instruction and support and is responsible for overseeing general nutritional services for program participants. The Nutritionist will also interact with program participants and so must be familiar with the Guiding Values issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA). At all times, the Nutritionist will seek to act in accord with the principles and values expressed and uphold the agency mission “to serve individuals with developmental disabilities by providing residential and community services that maximize each person's quality of life.”
What Your Day Will Look Like

Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Nutritionist provides dietary oversight, Provide oversight of the dietary and nutrition needs of the clients
Meet with clients and their support team to identify dietary needs by assessing their health, activity level and food habits
Develop personalized nutrition and menu plans
When applicable, visit the clients to obtain food preferences and environmental impacts to assist with gathering information for a nutritional assessment
Create sample shopping lists for personalized menu plans, working with the clinical, financial and program staff to fit within budgetary restrictions
Provide oversight of grocery items purchased, as well as meals prepared to ensure the menu plans are being followed, especially for medically sensitive dietary plans (gluten-free/casein-free, diabetic, allergy prevention, etc.)
Assist with establishing short and long-term goals for the clients
Collaborate with client support teams and community partners to provide optimal nutritional support
Maintain communication with the Clinical Team to ensure any health or medical concerns are shared and incorporated into the nutrition and menu plans
Review all health care providers' recommendations involving diet and nutrition, ensuring the recommendations are followed and incorporated into corresponding plans
Regularly communicate with the Registered Nurses working with designated clients to ensure collaborative efforts with meeting the health and nutrition needs of the clients
Collaborate with the BCBA on any behavioral matters that may have a dietary component, revising the nutrition and menu plans, as needed
Ensure changes to nutrition and menu plans are communicated to the staff working directly with the clients
Collaborate with Human Resources on employee wellness programs
Formulate strategies to develop community partnerships that may benefit client and employee nutrition and wellness needs, such as food companies, retailers and gyms
Develop and maintain Nutritional Assessments and Reports for clients
Conduct an initial nutritional assessment for each client
For clients with specific health or medical issues related to diet, such as diabetes, obesity or prescribed diets, provide semi-annual nutrition reports.
Ensure that critical changes in assessed nutritional supports are included in the Individualized Instruction and Support Plan
Provide guidance and training to employees regarding client nutritional support and meal preparation
Develop courses on nutrition, various dietary restrictions and health matters with a focus on approved continuing education credits for employees
Facilitate training courses for employees and clients who are able to take part in meal preparation, including healthy cooking courses, food storage, following developed meal plans and recipes
Customize communication of nutritional supports to intended audience in order to explain the benefits of a healthy diet
Maintain documentation of training conducted and provide regularly to Human Resources
Participate in applicable staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars; complete individual training requirements annually and maintain certifications and licensures, as required

**Job Description** Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i's only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i's leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 243 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high-risk perinatal care. Over 1,500 employees and more than 630 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women's Center and the Women's Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

The WIC program is a federally-funded Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC) within the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children. The program provides Hawai'i residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding instruction and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and are at medical or nutritional risk.
