The first O’Neills size 5 footballs were produced in 1918 by Charles O’Neill & Co., a company founded from Charles’ family home on Dublin’s Capel Street.
Jack O’Neill opens the first surf shop in 1952 off The Great Highway, San Francisco.
In 1955, following the passing of his father, Paul O’Neill took stewardship of the company.
In 1959, Jack opened his first surfing shop in Santa Cruz at the entrance to Cowell Beach.
In 1996, Jack O’Neill founded the non-profit O’Neill Sea Odyssey.
A commemorative plaque and a temporary mural were put up near the old Surf Shop location and a dedication even was held in the parking lot for Cowell Beach in March 2013.
