1925

1925 United States Amateur: Jones made this one the second of his five United States Amateur championships, crushing his good friend and fellow Georgian Watts Gunn, 8 and 7, fueling his skyrocketing reputation.

1927

1927 United States Open: The first of a record nine United States Open Championships to be contested at Oakmont.

1935

During the 1935 United States Open, spectator Edward Stimpson Sr. noticed Gene Sarazen putt off the green and into a bunker.

1953

1953 United States Open: Ben Hogan had one of the greatest seasons ever in golf.

1962

1962 United States Open: In a historic victory, young Jack Nicklaus, 22, scored his first win as a pro, beating the iconic Arnold Palmer, the world’s greatest golfer, in a grind that ended in an 18-hole playoff.

1966

100 Greatest History: Ranked since 1966.

1973

Home to the “Greatest round of golf" During the 1973 United States Open, Jonny Miller shot a 63 in his final round.

1992

1992 United States Women’s Open: The best women golfers converged on Oakmont for the first time to play for the National Championship.

1994

1994 United States Open: Els needed par on the last to hold off Roberts and Montgomerie, but he hit his drive into the rough and made bogey from there, forcing a three-way playoff.

2007

Since the 2007 United States Open the course has removed over 14,000 trees When the course first opened it had zero trees.

2010

2010 United States Women’s Open: The second time the United States Women’s Open would be contested at Oakmont saw the “Pink Panther”, Paula Creamer, earn her first career major championship.

2016
