DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Rehabilitation teams at Samaritan evaluate and treat patients with injuries or conditions that have caused either a decline in self-care, physical mobility or functional independence. We provide specialty care from pediatrics to geriatrics, from neurological to women's health, from lymphedema care to wheelchair fitting, hand therapy and more. Our acute services are centered out of Samaritan's Regional Medical system, a 160 bed, level 2 trauma center. Our outpatient clinic features cutting edge equipment, custom splinting stations, a Sanet Vision Integrator, a therapy pool with an underwater treadmill and separate adult and pediatric gyms. We also offer outpatient services at the Pastega Regional Cancer Center. All outpatient services are one-on-one and feature therapist-driven treatment times.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Current unencumbered Oregon Occupational Therapist license required.
Healthcare Provider BLS required.

An Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for the assessment of referred patients that require rehabilitation services which includes: providing direct patient care to assess their medical condition, functional capabilities, limitations and restrictions and potential for rehabilitation. Also, the OT will establish and administer a treatment program with specific goals determined according to the patient's capacity and tolerance under the direction of a physician. In addition, the OT must set realistic and achievable goals for their patients, document and record the patient's condition and educate patients and families in an appropriate occupational therapy method.
Essential Functions
Optimizes the functionality and skills of patients by providing, directing and/or overseeing therapy in the following: screening of all residents, assessing and treating all patients who might benefit from therapy as referred by state-approved referral source.
Adheres to Minimum Data Set (MDS) procedures and effective care planning.
Thoroughly document progress toward identified objectives and communicating patient status and needs to the patient, family, and other involved professionals.
Refers patients for treatment to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA), where appropriate.
Provides consultation and clinical supervision to COTAs in the facility.
Directs COTA(s) and Rehab Aide(s) in skilled tasks during group and individual treatment in a manner that promotes efficient and effective utilization of resources and facilitate the ongoing development of clinical skills in accordance with State Practice Acts, Omnibus Reconciliation Act (OBRA).
Build a strong rehabilitation practice within each facility by performing or directing and supervising occupational therapy staff in the following activities: establishing and maintaining courteous and helpful interaction patterns with staff, patients, and families which reflect sensitivity to individual needs and a problem-solving approach; actively integrating therapy's role into facility and interdisciplinary treatment team.
Contribute to facility patient care, utilization review, case management, administrative staff/department head meetings, and family conference activities/communications.
Ensures punctuality and regular attendance for assigned shifts.
Other Functions
Provides skilled occupational therapy services / interventions in accordance with physician orders.
Assesses patient needs, plans for, evaluates and modifies care to meet goals of occupational therapy interventions.

Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education services to infants, toddlers, and preschool children in Lane County. Over 1700 children who have developmental delays or disabilities are served each year.
Early Childhood CARES services include parent consultation, parent-toddler groups, specialized preschools, consultation with children in community preschools or child care, and speech, physical or occupational therapy.
Staff who work for Early Childhood CARES have teaching licenses or state license/authorization to teach young children. They are specialists in early intervention/early childhood special education, speech-language therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and school psychology.

Position Summary
Early Childhood CARES is seeking qualified applicants for its Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist positions.
Physical and Occupational Therapists at Early Childhood CARES teach young children (birth to five years old) or provide consultation concerning children with a variety of developmental disabilities and sensory impairments in classrooms, in homes, and in community settings. This position will also provide direct physical or occupational therapy to young children as specified on the child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist faculty positions are non-tenure-track, renewable positions that include both academic year and summer appointments. Appointments are renewable annually.
Additional Expectations of the Position:
• This position involves working in homes, preschools, and clinic situations.
• This position must be able to travel to locations throughout Lane County that may not be serviced by public transportation. Employees must be eligible to be a University of Oregon certified driver, as driving is part of the essential functions of this position.
• Ability to interact effectively with children while providing instruction, including bending, kneeling, or sitting at child-size tables and chairs.
• Enrollment in the Central Background Registry is mandatory
• Valid CPR/First Aid Card.

Graduate of an accredited program in occupational therapy (BSOT or MSOT)

How you'll contribute
