Build a strong rehabilitation practice within each facility by performing or directing and supervising occupational therapy staff in the following activities: establishing and maintaining courteous and helpful interaction patterns with staff, patients, and families which reflect sensitivity to individual needs and a problem solving approach; actively integrating therapy's role into facility and interdisciplinary treatment team; contributing to facility patient care, utilization review, case management, administrative staff/department head, and family conference activities/communications; establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with other healthcare professionals and colleagues in the community; making appropriate referrals to other members of the rehabilitation team, developing and implementing new programs/techniques to enhance rehabilitation services; adhering to established facility policies and procedures related to environmental safety, orderliness, risk management, infection control and emergency situations; and adhering to the requirements of the patient's Bill of Rights.
Enhancing clinical expertise, professional and management skills through interaction with managers, therapists and other professional staff, self-study, and other continuing education activities; maintaining valid state license (where appropriate); obtain membership and participate in professional organizations; maintain awareness of issues related to the profession of occupational therapy and the health care environment.

Screen students to identify those with a speech/language disorder
Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for identified students, which include long term goals and short term objectives, to meet the individual needs of each child identified with a disorder.
Design treatment strategies to help the child best meet the goals and objectives stated in the IEP.
Conduct speech/language therapy services according to frequency and duration as indicated in the IEP in a group and/or individual session. Qualifications

Successful experience as a speech therapist in a school setting preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Shift: Day shift 8 am to 4:30 pm
Summary of the Job:
Specializes in diagnosis and treatment of speech and language pathology, and engages in scientific study of human communication: Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social, and psychological factors. Reviews individual file to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available. Plans, directs, or conducts habilitative and rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication deficits of organic and non-organic etiology. Provides counseling and guidance and language development therapy to handicapped individuals and/or caregivers. Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests. Perform bed side swallow studies and provide recommendations for appropriate diets. Perform Modified Barium Swallow Studies upon MD referral (prescription) and provide impressions/recommendations to ordering physicians. Develop and implement individualized plans for patients to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities. Evaluates and monitors individuals, using audio-visual equipment, such as tape recorders, overhead projectors, filmstrips, and demonstrative materials. Reviews treatment plan, and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs. Provides recommendations to facilitate discharge from hospital setting and appropriate post-acute speech therapy needs. Maintains records as required by law, establishment's policy, and administrative regulations. Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth. Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to practice new skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Communications Disorders from an ASHA accredited institution.
Licensed, or eligible for licensure in the state of Louisiana. Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.
Working knowledge of computer software to include, but not be limited to: word processing and spreadsheets.
Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
