Responsibilities
Our OccupationalTherapists/OTs help patients who have debilitating conditions improve the functions of performing everyday tasks in the home. OccupationalTherapists/OTs use treatments to develop the daily living skills of their patients and the basic motor functions of patients, as well as to compensate for any loss of function that patient may be experiencing. OccupationalTherapists/OTs administer skilled care to clients requiring intermittent professional services and teach the family and other members of the health care team. A BVSD OccupationalTherapist will provide educationally related treatment and services to identified students including screening, assessment, intervention/treatment, and training. * Develop and implement individualized, goal-directed and research based intervention in the areas of fine motor, gross motor, visual motor, sensory processing and/or other identified activities of daily living for students on their caseload.
* Implement direct and indirect IEP service minutes and IEP documentation for students on their caseload.
* Adapt, secure, fabricate and maintain specialized instructional materials or adaptive equipment required for service provision or student needs.
* Investigate and recommend types of adaptive equipment necessary to meet student needs.
* Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary IEP team for purposes of determining eligibility for special education under IDEA.
* Identify the need for goals and accommodations addressing areas of fine motor, visual motor, gross motor, sensory processing and activities of daily living (ADLs).
* Collaboratively determine the need for occupational therapy related services to support a student's special education program and educational access in the areas of fine motor, visual motor, gross motor, sensory processing and/or activities of daily living (ADLs.).
* Assesses students using appropriate evaluation tools including standardized assessments, clinical observations, and review of medical and educational reports to determine need for OT services during the initial and re-evaluation process.
* Complete progress reports at all required reporting periods per the IEP and complete regular progress monitoring for goals related to motor abilities, sensory processing and ADLs for all students on their caseload.
* Complete Medicaid documentation on a regular (weekly or monthly) basis.
* Collaborate with families, general and special education staff, paraprofessionals, and service providers. Areas of collaboration include accommodations, adaptive materials, data collection and assessment and meaningful inclusion.
* Consultation in the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) schoolwide process. This also includes collaboration with home service providers when relevant.
* Supervision: Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant(s) (COTA) assistants and direct their daily work, when relevant.
* Create and foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment; implement procedures and routines that maximize student learning; respond to student misconduct in a respectful manner using restorative practices; actively seek a variety of perspectives; demonstrate mutual respect for peers and adults in a variety of contexts; and communicate and involve parent/guardians in all aspects of their child's education.
* Create and support a culture of equity and inclusion that values, accepts, and understands diversity and the impact of culturally responsive practices.
* Understand and identify barriers in classroom instructional practices that contribute to disproportionate outcomes for underrepresented groups of students.
* Develop positive relationships with parents/families; encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents; provide proactive, clear and constructive feedback to families about student progress and work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students; and foster two way communication with families.

The occupationaltherapist contracted through the Organization is responsible for the implementation of standards of care for occupational therapy services and for adherence to all conditions outlined in the Service Agreement. Any direct patient care provided will be performed as defined by the state Occupational Therapy Practice Act.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Evaluates patient's functional status (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills, self care ability, work capacity, etc.). Evaluates home environment for hazards or barriers to more independent living. Identifies equipment needs. Participates in the development of the total plan of care.
2. For patients who plan to return to work, the occupationaltherapist may perform work capacity evaluation and may refer to specialized vocational training in accordance with Organization policy.
3. Develops treatment program and establishes goals for improved function. Communicates plan of care to referring physician and other Organization professionals.
4. May teach new skills or retrain patient in once familiar daily activities that have been lost due to illness or injury, in accordance with Organization policy.
5. May fabricate splints and instruct patient in the use of various types of adaptive equipment to improve function.
6. May train patient in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
7. Maintains appropriate clinical records, clinical notes, and reports to the physician any
changes in the patient's condition. Submits these records in accordance with Organization policy.
8. Maintains contact/communication with other personnel involved in the patient's care to promote coordinated, efficient care.
9. Attends and contributes to in services, case conferences, and other meetings as required by Organization policy to ensure coordinated and comprehensive plans of care for the patients of the Organization.
10. Identifies patient and family/caregiver needs for other home health services and refers as appropriate.
11. Instructs patient's family/caregiver and other Organization health care personnel in patient's treatment regime when indicated and appropriate.
12. Supervises certified occupational therapy assistants according to organization policy and state regulations.
13. When therapy is the only skilled service, instructs, supervises and evaluates home health aide care every two (2) weeks.
14. Participates in discharge planning for patient.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

3. Two years of clinical experience as an occupationaltherapist.
4. Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
