KIDS FIRST serves children with special healthcare needs ranging in age from six weeks to five years. In our pediatric day healthcare clinics, children diagnosed as having a medical condition known to place them at risk for developmental delays and disabilities receive intensive intervention.
The Occupational Therapist works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide the evidence-based best practice evaluation and therapy techniques for the birth to 5 population with a variety of fine motor delays/disorders at UAMS Kids First clinic. May provide supervision to occupational therapy assistants. Travel to other KIDS FIRST locations may be required.
Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Occupational Therapy or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy plus two (2) years of experience in Occupational Therapy required.
* Certified by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or eligible to apply for the examination.
* Current Arkansas Occupational Therapy License or eligible to obtain license within one (1) month of date of hire.
Knowledge, Skills &Abilities:

* Evaluates to determine fine motor skills, visual perceptual motor skills, sensory processing and self-help skills in addition to upper extremity strength, range of motion, muscle tone, dynamic sitting/standing balance for functional task and trunk stability using appropriate diagnostic instruments. Also, determines the need for adaptive equipment and splinting needs.
* Reviews results of standardized scores along with informed clinical judgment and observations to make the correct diagnosis.
* Translates the obtained information into a professional, typed document along with treatment recommendations, developing appropriate goals and objectives as related to patient's needs.
* Confers with the Medical Director when necessary regarding said results/recommendations. Implements direct therapy for children, based upon findings using evidence-based techniques.
* Monitors progress and makes modifications to treatment plan as needed.
* Documents services provided in a professional, timely manner.
* Prepares and provides billing documents according to KIDS FIRST and Medicaid guidelines on a weekly basis.
* Verifies accuracy billing documents through careful review of progress notes, treatment room sign-out forms, and child's individual prescription requirements.
* Collaborates and communicates with families, other therapists, nurses, social workers, director, developmental staff, and contractors to provide the best quality of care and optimal outcomes for each child.
* Encourage families to take an active role in supporting their child's development using the principles of Family Centered Care.

Qualifications:

Purpose:
A physical therapist evaluates students with motor and/or sensory disabilities in addition to planning and implementing interventions so that these students may access the educational curriculum in the least restrictive environment.

Qualifications:
1. Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program with entry-level credentials in physical therapy.
2. Current licensure to practice physical therapy.
3. Knowledge of pediatric conditions and pediatric physical therapy.
4. Knowledge of and compliance with Arkansas special education regulations and the procedures.

2. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

General Responsibilities:
1. Assess identified students to determine whether there is an educationally significant need for physical therapy.
2. Participate on the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team to establish goals, objectives and the length of time required to achieve the goals.
3. Schedule and deliver the physical therapy interventions with students as determined in the IEP.
4. Consult with special education teachers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and occupational therapists, physical education teachers, nurses, school administrators, bus drivers and other school personnel as well as parents to provide information and recommendations regarding students with physical disabilities.
5. Communicate with physicians, and service agencies regarding orthotics and adaptive equipment needs for the student.
6. Instruct classroom personnel (teachers/paraprofessionals) in safe transfer techniques.
7. Instruct and supervise classroom personnel in carrying out specific programs for individual students.
8. Monitor the students' progress toward goals and objectives and provide written reviews every semester.
9. Assist students in developing feelings of self-worth and in making social adjustments that permit them to cope with disabilities.
10. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
11. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.
12. Assist with public awareness activities that lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.
13. Keep abreast of new information, ideas and techniques in pediatric physical therapy and practice in educational environments.
14. Obtain prior approval for all special activities and expenditures.
15. Ensure that school district policies are observed during all activities.
16. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
17. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services and building administrator, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
