Essential Duties & Functions:
Use all available resources effectively to quickly locate internal procedures and NFIP/FEMA guidelines to ensure accuracy and adherence. This includes the NFIP FIM, OneSource and the School of Flood. Provide feedback to leadership for revisions.
Review and issue All NB applications, any occupancy, construction type and rating method.
Process and issue endorsements and invoices when applicable.
Process cancellations and invoices when applicable.
Any premium bearing tasks including URCs, renewals, and cash corrections. Research policy payment and refund history.
Make outgoing phone calls to agents to follow up on any missing documentation or discussion, as needed.
Take payments over the phone, as needed.
Provide support for phone calls and chats for Customer Care and/or Customer Experience when the business need arises.
Partner with other departments, agents, and carriers to resolve issues and address needs.
Competencies:
Strong customer service skills and a willingness to provide the best support for our customers in every interaction: phone calls, chats, emails and handling of all underwriting tasks.
Training in all levels of FEMA/NFIP underwriting.
Training with all policy administration systems (Hobbes/WIN), agent and insured websites, workflow management system (ImageRight), as well as phone and chat systems (Five9). As well as Workday for timecard and PTO management and intranet.
Have continued improvement to meet and maintain a quality review score of 85% or better.
Understanding of the Flood Insurance Manual and other standard resource materials including OneSource.
Ability to effectively communicate with professionalism and accuracy to both internal and external customers.
Aptitude to learn multiple computer systems.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite including MS Teams.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment to achieve common goals.
Teammate must be able to adapt in an ever changing, fast paced environment where priorities will shift, or delays may be encountered.
Stay current with all processing guidelines, FEMA updates. Teammates should also possess strong self-management skills, be trustworthy and adhere to all company policies of conduct while in the office or in a work from home environment.
The teammate must always maintain a professional and courteous demeanor, especially in difficult situations as well as treat all customers and teammates with professionalism and respect.
Requirements:
HS Diploma or equivalent
AA Degree preferred but not required.
Bi-lingual a plus but not required
Insurance experience a plus but not required
Call center experience
The ability to work overtime at management discretion and business needs.
Unless otherwise indicated, this is a Hybrid position, you will be required to work in the office as needed or scheduled.

The Production Underwriter for RT Connector is responsible for building and maintaining a book of business by proactively engaging with retail agents, assessing and analyzing insurance risks, determining coverage terms, and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The role is focused on the Property & Casualty sector, with an emphasis on driving revenue for RT Connector through sound underwriting practices and sales efforts. Responsibilities include soliciting clients, assessing risk, pricing coverage, and binding policies via RT Connector, and other carrier partners, while cultivating strong relationships with agency partners. The position also involves collaborating with carriers, negotiating terms, analyzing exposures, and building a portfolio.
What will your job entail?
Production
Develop and maintain strong relationships with retail agents to drive submission flow and bind rates in the Connector, through proactive outreach and solution selling.
Provide responsive, knowledgeable support to agents throughout the quoting and binding process.
Utilize the Connector to quote, bind, and issue policies efficiently through a submission inbox.
Engage with non-active registered users of RT Connector to elicit feedback, conduct meetings, appetite education and Connector demos to promote our platform and drive adoption.
Improve revenue retention by engaging with retail agents on specific renewal quotes to provide advice, support and direction.
Establish and monitor the production pipeline of new & renewal business.
Identify and pursue new market opportunities and underserved segments.
Collaborate with the Business Development team to help improve KPIs and Connector adoption among registered users.

Ensure timely and accurate preparation for issuance of policies.
Order/review inspection reports to assess risk quality and to confirm exposure base accuracy.
Ensure that information available from internal and external resources is properly integrated into underwriting decision making.
Drive a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding insureds' risks. Collaborate with other underwriters and team members to gain a comprehensive understanding of the exposure and best means to provide coverage.
Work Experience and Education:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred; Business Administration, Risk Management preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.

Overview
Underwrites, prices and services large, loss sensitive accounts (premium >$350k) working with appropriate supervision on assignments of varying complexity, hazard grade and premium. Handles the daily service demands of our agents in support of individual and team goals, with an adequate understanding of coverage, products, underwriting system transactions, and State specific LOB filings. Responsibilities
* Underwrite and process large account renewal policies with supervision and within a letter of authority from the Underwriting Manager. Gather, analyze, and evaluate risk exposure through appropriate risk documentation. Apply knowledge and understanding of coverage forms, rating plans and guidelines in the selection and pricing of individual risks. Ensure adequate pricing of individual risks through proper classification, accuracy of information and adherence to company underwriting standards and philosophy.
* Respond to agents' inquiries on coverage and adjust policy information based upon prescribed authority.
* Work within specified authority level to quote, accept, decline, modify and renew risks within account assignment in accordance with accepted underwriting guidelines. Partner with Large Account Specialists, Agents, team members and other departments to grow and maintain a profitable book of business.
* Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and appetite at the individual account and portfolio level to internal and external customers. Reinforce the ease of doing business with Selective by meeting or exceeding customers' expectations and service quality on a consistent basis.
* Develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external customers, peers and management. Partner with Large Account Specialist to conduct Agency and customer visits across a broad regional geography. Communicate openly and in a timely fashion. Work diligently to achieve individual and team goals.
* Conduct continuous profit and growth analysis as assigned. Monitor premium retention with the use of electronic reporting tools. Increase renewal premium by cross-selling additional coverage, products or value-added services.
* Participate in projects and initiatives as assigned.
* Identify and participate in ongoing learning related to underwriting, company products and services.
* Must have a valid license and be able to drive an automobile to support company travel within territory. Car travel represents less than 10% of employee's time.

Overview

Make decisions within your letter of authority and follow department service standards.
Provide input on product development and underwriting procedures.

Qualifications:
Required 2+ years experience working in an insurance underwriter role, preferably in personal lines.
Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
Strong team player.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and multitask.
Demonstrated proficient personal computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
Additional education in insurance or other industry-related coursework is preferred. Interest in pursuing additional education in the insurance industry.
Bilingual abilities (Spanish, Hmong, etc.) are a plus.

The OPPORTUNITY
Come leverage your industry expertise and join our growing team in this Express Account Underwriter I (EAU I) opportunity.The EAU I will manage an assigned book of business, containing workers compensation, commercial package, business auto and umbrella lines of business for construction industry clients. The EAU I will be fully trained and proficient in underwriting and screening new business submissions, renewals and endorsements for acceptability and applying appropriate terms and conditions.
The EAU I will be assigned a specific territory and will concentrate on express account business within this designated territory to drive results including new business, loss ratio and customer service goals. The EAU I will collaborate with their underwriters and territory managers for territory success.
We are seeking an Express Account Underwriter I who ideally resides in the Raleigh, NC area; however, we are also open to qualified candidates who live within our footprint and would work remotely.
For Raleigh, NC-based candidates: This hybrid role requires working in our Raleigh office at least two days per week, with the flexibility to work from home the remaining three days.
For remote candidates within our footprint: You will work from your home office and collaborate with your team virtually, traveling to our Raleigh office for meetings and company events up to four times a year.
Your WORK as an Express Account Underwriter I will make a difference as you:
Review new business submissions and make final risk acceptability and pricing decisions within designated authority. For risks outside of authority the underwriter will analyze the risk and make appropriate recommendation to management.
Review endorsement requests and make final decision on acceptability, terms & conditions and communicate to Agency Service Representatives (ASR) and agents accordingly.
Review renewals and make final decision on acceptability, terms & conditions and communicate to ASR and agents accordingly.
Order and screen miscellaneous reports needed in rating and underwriting processes, such as MVR's, Experian Reports, Loss Control Reports, etc.
Provide customer service support to our agents, handling various inquires and requests with some level of complexity.
Actively participate and drive territory goals.
Assist in training of other EAUs.
Conduct IT testing as required.
Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
BA/BS Degree with 2 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent Customer Service and Communication Skills - Internal and External.
Understands the fundamentals of insurance.
Strong PC (MS Office, Outlook) skills; knowledge of policy processing systems and imaging systems.
AU Completed along with starting CBIA and CISR or CRIS.
