The most qualified candidates will be provided a conditional offer letter and invited to move forward in the selection process to a background investigation in accordance with applicable law, regulation and/or policy. Candidates will be required to complete and submit a State of California Personal History Statement (POST Form 2-251 Rev. 01/2024). The information that you provide in the Personal History Statement will be used in the background investigation to assist in determining your suitability for the position of Police Officer (Recruit), in accordance with POST Commission Regulation 1953. The San Francisco Community College District Police Department is a Peace Officers' Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) participant. The officer's primary functions are to provide protection of life and property and to enforce state and local laws and college policies within the jurisdiction of San Francisco Community College District campuses. In accordance with District policy, the San Francisco Community College District Police Department is a sworn unarmed department. Job Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
1. Maintain law and order within and surrounding City College campuses and other district sites.
2. Provide a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
3. In a professional and courteous manner; respond to all emergencies on District property.
4. Uphold the laws and statues of the State of California, municipal and criminal, enforce state and local ordinances, rules and regulations related to the San Francisco Community College District.
5. Provide assistance and /or first aid.
6. Perform traffic control and investigate traffic collisions.
7. Issue verbal warning or issue citations for violations observed and issue parking citations.
8. Patrol assigned areas in a marked patrol vehicle and/or on foot.
9. Provide money escorts upon request on District property.
10. Conduct investigations of various crimes committed; interview suspects. victims and witnesses in the field; make arrests as necessary; prepare reports on arrests, burglaries, disturbances and unusual circumstances observed.
11. Make felony/misdemeanor/warrant arrests as necessary which includes transporting and booking suspects as well as properly preparing a San Francisco Police Department Incident Report.
12. Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing directions and responding to questions and inquiries; provide service escorts for any person requiring assistance.
13. Respond to faculty, staff and student complaints in potentially hostile situations; intervene and mediate in disturbances and disputes.
14. Testify and present evidence in court as necessary.
15. Assist in the event of natural disasters and other extraordinary circumstances.
16. May perform other duties as assigned by Chief of Police or his/her designee.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This classification may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, running or sitting for prolonged periods of time; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; possible exposure to physical injury and other dangers inherent in police work. Must possess satisfactory hearing capabilities and visual acuity of at least 20/100 correctable to at least 20/30 in each eye. Officers are required to wear police uniforms, a bullet proof vests, and required police gear.
Officers are required to work flexible shifts, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Officers may be assigned to any of the District campuses under the department policy and/or at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
The department currently operates two shifts: Day shift and swing shift. Shifts are 5 days/8 hours per day or 4 days/10 hours per day; 7 days a week.

Education:

1. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year's Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. General Medical Requirements: As determined by OPM the duties of this position require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders, hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet must function sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the duties satisfactorily.

* Recruitment Incentive: Applicants may be eligible for a $40,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The first installment of $15,000 will be paid following successful completion of Secret Service Criminal Investigator training. A second installment of $10,000 will be paid following one year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. The final installment of $15,000 will be paid after a third year of service post training and an acceptable performance rating. Provision of these payments require the execution of a three-year Continued Service Agreement (CSA) with the agency. Newly hired employees who resign from the USSS prior to the expiration of the CSA will be required to repay the recruitment incentive. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).
Applicants selected for this position will be required to sign a CSA before being assigned to an initial training class. The CSA will commit the applicant to a specified period of employment with the Secret Service upon the successful completion of training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:

* Handles hazardous situations by alerting the appropriate emergency response agency(ies), evacuating persons, identifying hazardous materials, notifying dispatcher, and establishing and maintaining a perimeter until the situation has been resolved.
* Enforces and regulates traffic and motor vehicle rules by monitoring for traffic law infractions, pulling over vehicles in violation of laws, verifying driver and vehicle identification, observing driver and passenger behavior, administering field sobriety tests, and issuing warnings and citations to drivers.
* Renders medical assistance by evaluating the scene, assessing the condition of an individual, providing first aid, requesting medical emergency personnel, and transporting individual to hospital or jail if needed.

* Interacts with the public and performs community relation activities such as contacting friends and/or families of victims, responding to citizen requests for assistance, communicating with business owners in patrol area, interacting with local parties (e.g., officials, school principals, citizen groups, civic associations) to discuss police services and/or criminal activity, and conducting presentations to local groups to promote public safety.
* Works as a team with other officers by informing responding officers of scene information (e.g., location, potential or known hazards), coordinating actions on scene, ensuring self and other officer safety, and reporting incident information so other officers are informed.
* Participates in training activities by completing basic and advanced technical skills trainings, staying abreast on laws, policies, and procedures, maintaining APOST certification, and participating in physical fitness activities.
* Maintains jails and inmates in custody by ensuring inmate safety and well-being, transporting inmates, and searching inmates and jail for weapons and unauthorized objects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods, but occasionally involves moderate to heavy physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, or running. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 75 lbs. Work involves physical ability necessary to occasionally subdue or restrain a combative individual and exercise necessary self-defense.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted both indoors in office setting as well as periodic field visits to external locations such as roadways, businesses, residences, and government buildings. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Work may involve the use of specialized equipment such as firearms, hand-held weapons, speed detection devices, vehicle/on-person cameras, first aid equipment and materials, investigative equipment/tools, and analytical tools such as breathalyzers and drug testing kits.
